Evan McMullin to launch conservative group opposing Trump

Last edited Wed Jan 25, 2017, 12:30 PM - Edit history (1)

Source: Washington Examiner

Former presidential candidate Evan McMullin and his running mate Mindy Finn will launch a new conservative group on Wednesday that's opposed to President Trump, and will kick off the effort with a television advertisement questioning his connections to Russia.

"Stand Up Republic" is a new 501(c)4 political nonprofit organization. McMullin and Finn, both Republicans, waged a long-shot independent bid for president in 2016 to block Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton from winning 270 electoral votes, and throw the election to the House.

They envision their new group as a home for conservative grassroots opposition to Trump, but plan to partner with activists on the left who share their concerns about the threat they believe Trump poses to the Constitution, equality and liberty. Stand Up Republic's first television spot questions Trump's ties to Russian strongman Vladimir Putin, and suggests that the new president is hiding something and needs to come clean about his connections to Moscow.

The ad is clearly intended to provoke the president. It's slated to run for two weeks in the Washington and New York markets only and only on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," because Trump is known to be an avid watcher of the cable news network's morning program.

I would love to partner with McMullin.

They wanted to calm down the religious rhetoric. It didn't work. Montana republicans are full blown tea fascists.

McMullin, who consistently hammers Trump, can do a lot of damage. We're pretty much on opposite ends of the political spectrum, but I respect that he's principled and courageous.

While I feel Republicons (politicians) are the scum of the earth-this guy seems like you know a first Bush type. Anyway-this is madness and I don't want people to die. So anybody that comes back with Pence is just is bad-really ? WE FEAR TRUMP WILL KILL US. Not later sooner. Anyone that can stop this madman-hey maybe he'll only nuke a small country so Pence is just as bad-NO this is serious as it gets. McMullin been consistent so far. He actually will not mince words. Truth. We are fighting for truth. God help us all.

So good to see those on the other side of the aisle are going to join the fight. He will be able to reach those we cannot and give current repubs in the Senate and Congress some backing.

We need more of the true Americans to stand up for the other side of the aisle.

He and Rick Wilson his campaign manager would constantly say that Clinton was just as bad as Donny. The only third party candidate that had any balls was William Weld who said Clinton was qualified to be president.

So I wish him luck but I don't trust him for a second. He only comes off as reasonable when you compare him to Donny or Cruz.
