Mary Tyler Moore is in grave condition at a Connecticut hospital ... TMZ has learned.

Sources close to the family tell us her condition is so grim family members are coming to the hospital to say goodbye. The TV icon's long battled diabetes, and she underwent brain surgery in 2011.

You were quite a role model for a little girl back in the day.

and she was my inspiration. I tried really hard to emulate her "Ooooooh Rob" line delivery.

So sad.

She was kind of standoffish and so skinny. But she raised a lot of money for junvenile diabetes that I overlooked that. Sorry to hear she is near her end.

...her show when it aired. It was an all-time great lineup on Saturday night. All in the Family at 8, M*A*S*H at 8:30, Mary at 9, Bob Newhart at 9:30 and Carol Burnett at 10. No better 3 hours of comedy on a single night EVER. Sadness reigns over my day.

She was such a generous performer on her MTM show. Let other people shine all the time, and often took a back seat in a given episode. It was like the events in the show went on around her, instead of her being the chief protagonist.

And that was a great thing for this little girl growing up in the 70s to see a woman like this on TV!

Rest peacefully~~
