U.S. President Donald Trump kept up his criticism of Mexico on Friday saying the United States southern neighbor had taken advantage of it long enough and demanding that Massive trade deficits & little help on the very weak border must change NOW!
Trumps statement, posted on Twitter, follows a suggestion from the White House on Thursday that Washington could impose a 20 percent tax on goods from Mexico to pay for a border wall, sending the peso tumbling and deepening a crisis between the two nations.

President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Friday to complain about the United States trade deficit with Mexico. Mexico has taken advantage of the U.S. for long enough. Massive trade deficits & little help on the very weak border must change, NOW! Trump tweeted.
According to the Office of the United States Trade Representative, the U.S. had a goods trade deficit of $58 billion with Mexico in 2015 and a services trade surplus of $9.2 billion. But journalist Simon Hedlin noted that the trade deficit didnt tell the whole story.

Axios also noted that while NAFTA did increase the U.S. trade deficit with Mexico, it also led to a tripling of trade in general. But the trade deficit is a lousy measure for any of this. More exports means more American jobs. Youd rather have $10 worth of exports and $15 worth of imports than $8 of both and no trade deficit, the website reported.

(22,651 posts)Mexico should demand $7.25 an hour as minimum pay for their citizens who work for USA corps in border industrial zones and in the hundreds of acres of American 'tax free' zones.
Our American prisoners need to be *directly paid* the Federal minimum wage, the slavery wage of 20 cents an hour is why corps won't hire regular citizens.

(777 posts)Within 100 miles of our home in New Mexico, there is an American factory in Mexico that assembles computers. The company pays its Mexican workers PER DAY less than US assembly workers would make PER HOUR. This is not a living wage; most of the workers still live in shacks without running water. Who is taking advantage?

(4,229 posts)Seriously, we better be careful.
If the farm workers and Mexicans "circle the wagons" against Trump by banning US farm imports and get their workers to stay home for 1 harvest season, we lose WAY more than they do.
