House Majority Whip Steve Scalise tells Fox 8 Trump's refugee ban 'makes a lot of sense'

The potential for terrorists to pose as refugees and enter the U.S. and do harm justifies President Donald Trump's executive order placing a travel ban on seven countries in the Middle East and Africa, Congressman Steve Scalise told WVUE Fox 8.

The House Majority Whip was asked for his take on the executive order, which led to protests at airports and in cities around the country. Hundreds gathered at Duncan Plaza near New Orleans City Hall on Sunday (Jan. 29), calling Trump's action an unfair targeting of Muslims.

Scalise said Trump is following through with a campaign pledge to keep Americans safe.

"ISIS has said they want to infiltrate a lot of these refugee programs and we've seen them carry that out in Europe. So we want to make sure that people who are coming into the United States aren't being infiltrated by terrorist organizations and until that can be done I think this freeze from certain countries, where we cannot vet, makes a lot of sense," Scalise said.

Since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, no one has been killed in the United States in a terrorist attack by anyone who emigrated from or whose parents emigrated from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen, the seven countries targeted in the order’s 120-day visa ban, according to Charles Kurzman, a sociology professor at the University of North Carolina.

This current order not only affects refugees, but those with work visas and green cards as well! People who live and work here, who have already been vetted, are being turned away in a move so brash and heartless that the only response can be outrage! Yet, these Trump ballwashers take comfort in their bigotry without any sense of conscience that the position they espouse will do nothing but add fuel to the fire of those who hate us.

The guy who was outed for speaking to white nationalist groups in his home state? Of course someone like him is going to support a ban on Muslims!
