Mob lawyer mentored Trump Labor pick
Source: Politico
Labor secretary nominee Andrew Puzder began his career fighting the agency he may now lead on behalf of one of the most notorious mob lawyers in the country.
Today, Puzder is CEO of CKE Restaurants, which owns the burger chains Carls Jr. and Hardees. But long before that, Puzder made his bones working at the St. Louis firm of Morris A. Shenker, the lawyer for Teamsters President Jimmy Hoffa and the target of frequent investigations by the FBI, Nevada Gaming Commission and others.
Shenker was part of the mob," recalls Denny Walsh, who wrote a 1970 Life magazine profile of Shenker and covered Shenker for years at the St. Louis Globe Democrat. "He was their mouthpiece."
Puzder, whose confirmation hearing is scheduled for Feb. 7, is facing opposition from liberal groups and lawmakers who dont like his treatment of workers at CKE; hes also drawn headlines because his former wife accused him of domestic violence, charges that she later recanted. But so far the chapter of Puzders life in which he represented Shenker against union pensioners pensioners whom Puzder, as Labor secretary, would have the duty to protect has received little attention.

(3,290 posts)built in credibility with this, what I feel, is most absolutely corrupt, in every way you measure, president in my lifetime. This will not end well as more and more instances of both trumps and his appointees morally reprehensible behavior comes to light in the coming term.

(364 posts)Let's take stock for a moment.
1. Trump is connected with the former KGB (they got him elected).
2. His chief adviser is literally a Nazi.
3. His business dealings are clearly being enhanced by his personal influence as president.
4. By way of his personal mentorship under Roy Cohn, his associations with Russian mobsters through Vladimir Putin and his cabinet picks he is mobbed up.
Have I forgotten anything?
He is literally a movie villain

(14,918 posts)Roy Cohn, though perhaps most famous for his connection to Joe McCarthy, was also a mob lawyer.
