Russia accuses cybersecurity experts of treasonous links to CIA
Source: The Guardian
Two of Moscow's top cybersecurity officials are facing treason charges for cooperating with the CIA, according to a Russian news report.
The accusations add further intrigue to a mysterious scandal that has had the Moscow rumour mill working in overdrive for the past week, and come not long after US intelligence accused Russia of interfering in the US election and hacking the Democratic party's servers.
Sergei Mikhailov was deputy head of the FSB security agency's Centre for Information Security. His arrest was reported in a series of leaks over the past week, along with that of his deputy and several civilians, but Tuesday's news went much further.
"Sergei Mikhailov and his deputy, Dmitry Dokuchayev, are accused of betraying their oath and working with the CIA," Interfax said, quoting a source familiar with the investigation.

"A group of electors had requested information about Russia's meddling in the election, which was carried out through a series of data breaches and the release of emails and documents embarrassing to Democratic Party organizations.
Leaders close to the party's presidential nominee, Hillary Clinton, were the hacker's primary targets, according to assessments by the CIA and the FBI.
The two agencies on Friday confirmed that they were in agreement about the veracity of the Russian cyberattacks and the motive -- to hasten a Trump victory."

Couldn't such a briefing have been given to the electors who asked for it in such a way that "sensitive classified information" need not have been included?
If President Obama HAD allowed such a briefing, it's entirely possible that at least 37 electors pledged to Trump would have instead voted for Hillary Clinton; thus denying the presidency to Trump.
(President Barack Obama was the one who said no to the electors getting such a briefing, NOT his Director of National Security or anyone else)
Other related important questions for Barack Obama include:
- Why did President Obama call HRC early in the AM on November 9, 2016,
(before all the votes were even counted), and "suggest" to her that she should concede?
What was the reason for this mysterious phone call?
Obama KNEW that the Russians had hacked into the election and thereby conducted a CYBER ATTACK on the United States of America!
Perhaps he should have called Secretary Clinton to ask her to NOT concede..pending further investigation by the FBI, CIA and other intelligence agencies?
- Why did President Obama appoint James Comey to be FBI Director?
Was Republican Comey really the "best man for the job"?
FACT # 1
On October 28, just 11 days before the election, when HRC was leading Donald Trump by between 11-14 points in the polls, FBI Director James Comey TOOK IT UPON HIMSELF to send a letter to GOP leaders in Congress, informing them of finding more emails from HRC's personal email server (emails relating to Anthony Weiner, not Hillary Clinton)
FACT # 2
Comey did not seek or obtain permission from his boss, Attorney General Loretta Lynch, or from HER boss, President Barack Obama, before sending that treasonous letter to Congress, which then caused HRC to lose the 11 point lead over Trump.
(She then went into the election with a 3-4 point lead instead)
Now, Putin is trying to deflect his own treasonous actions taken on behalf of his good friend, Donald J. Trump, by looking for scapegoats within his own government who "committed treason by collaborating with the CIA"?
I say BULLSHIT!

Nance writes about the advanced cyber warfare techniques and capabilities of the Russians. It is astounding what
they can do.

(7,233 posts)Sergei Mikhailov, a top cybersecurity specialist in the FSB, and his deputy Dmitry Dokuchaev are being accused of breaking their oath and working with the CIA, Interfax reported, citing an anonymous source that did not specify if Mikhailov and Dokuchaev worked directly with the CIA or through intermediaries.
Four people have been arrested in this case, and eight individuals in total have been identified as accomplices. Only four suspects have been charged, and the others could get off as witnesses, the source told Interfax.
Another source told the news agency that the treason charges and allegations of illegal hacking against Mikhailov and his accomplices are separate cases that do not intersect.
Each of the suspects performed his own role. One person developed and deployed the cyberattacks, and another person collaborated with foreign intelligence agents. And these operations were parallel and, as a rule, they didnt intersect, the second source told Interfax, explaining that the groups members were acquainted in the IT and information security sectors.
