Tennessee GOP bill says children born through artificial insemination are not 'legitimate'

A bill filed by a Tennessee Republican aims to make children born through artificial insemination illegitimate.

WMC reported that state House Representative Terry Lynn Weaver is sponsoring HB 1406 to repeal Tennessee current statute, TCA 68-3-306, which declares that children born through artificial insemination are the “legitimate” child of the mother’s husband.

The text of the new bill says it immediately “repeals statute that deems a child born to a married woman as a result of artificial insemination, with consent of the married woman’s husband, to be the legitimate child of the husband and wife.”

Last year, Weaver was one of 53 GOP lawmakers who got involved in a same-sex marriage divorce that dealt with the custody of a child born through artificial insemination. Weaver and the other lawmakers asserted that the lesbian wife of the child’s mother should not be considered a “legitimate” parent under the current statute.

Sanctity of marriage, pure birth, God's working thru faith, etc. , etc. The only "legitimate" child in her warped mind and those type of people are those born out of a Christian certified marriage.

That means that a husband of a divorce couple can have as an excuse for getting out of alimony and child support because "legally", he is not the father?! Can they come up with more shit, in their brainless world?

he can claim he isn't the legal father and get out of child support. And there could be all kind of infertility issues where the actual husband's sperm is used for artificial insemination. But yet apparently he won't be considered a legal father (unless this bill is making exceptions for that situation?).

so our daughter is a product of IVF. We also just found out that we may have twins on the way via the same approach. We spent years in pain, hundreds of thousands (yes, literally) of dollars and suffered in ways that cannot be quantified for our child and, hopefully soon, our two other children. (Just coming to the end of the first trimester with a surrogate, so we're not out of the woods yet.) We had eight miscarriages, one which was so bad my wife's life was at risk. Parents who go through this, and I'm obviously biased, deserve our praise and support. Not our disdain and scorn.

I guess in the eyes of the American Taliban, they are all illegitimate human beings. Fuck these people. Fuck all that they say and what they claim to stand for.
