Elijah Cummings: House will investigate Kellyanne Conway for 'textbook example of violating the law'

The top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee said they will be investigating Trump Senior Adviser Kellyanne Conway’s comments plugging Ivanka Trump’s clothing line from the White House on national TV, calling it a “textbook example of violating the law.”

The woman who has become the face of the Trump administration set off a firestorm on Thursday after she gave “a commercial” on Fox & Friends, encouraging viewers to go out and buy some of the first daughter’s fashion line that is faltering in department stores.

“It’s a wonderful line, I own some of it,” Conway said. “I’m going to give it a free commercial here, go buy it today!”

According to Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD), his committee has no choice but to investigate Conway for breaking the law by using a public office for private gain.

I'm wishing the ONE being singled out for crimes committed wasn't the woman. Equal as she may be as scum, there are far bigger felons to fry. A number of them. Well, if they're trying to pick her off as a weak point, oh, well. She deserves whatever could happen and far, far more.

I mean, I'm ok with the investigation, but it's pretty small -- and there is so, so much big wrong-doing.

of a dam is enough to make the whole thing begin to crumble down. We can only hope that will happen with the tRump regime. It's got to start somewhere.

administration, and any disgrace she's involved in will illuminate its reality. We only need maybe another 3% of the electorate to vote against them in 2018 to change everything.

you sound like someone who might want to know (or not)--Scott Baio is boycotting Nordstrom's.
Probably any rise in stock prices from him is too small to measure, unlike the nice increase dropping the Ivanka line and the 45th's subsequent behavior generated.

Generally I avoid that category of store altogether, as I am allergic to perfume, but I am happy they are profiting from the idiocy of Agent Orange.

If that had happened close to the election, before virtually all conservatives managed to rationalize their acceptance and blow it off, it would have changed everything.

But during its moment it was huge, much larger than mere mental dysfunction and repeated whiffs of treason in a candidate who proudly boasted of cheating and corruption as tactics of a winner.

very tough and hard, not the sweet, delicate feminine flower that needs protection. Don't incoming WH staff get 1-day workshop on ethics and laws pertaining to gov employment? Guess not.

although A) she could have asked someone during the transition, or B) called in someone from the Ethics office to brief her. But she didn't. It just goes to the carelessness and recklessness of that whole crew.

but they are now drunk with power and feel they can get away with anything they want to say or do. Then circulate lies their followers will parrot until it becomes truth to them.

45 said it himself when he bragged he could shoot someone down on 5th Ave. and not lose a follower. And they have the media in their pocket too.

She said it on tv. What she said was against ethics rules. What, beyond that, is there to investigate?

Are they going to see if Conway benefited materially from what she said?

Has anyone bothered to establish a financial link between Conway and Ms. Trump? Kind of hard to indict based on "breaking the law by using a public office for private gain" if the party being charged gets no tangible gain from their alleged wrongdoing.
