Trump Proposes Checking Chinese Visitors

Source: Political Wire

February 18, 2017By Taegan Goddard

Politico: “The Trump administration is moving to expand social media checks to cover Chinese citizens traveling to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials are proposing to ask Chinese visitors to disclose their social media ‘handles’ or other identifiers on common social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook. The question would be asked online as part of an electronic system Chinese holders of long-term U.S. business and visitor visas use to advise of upcoming travel.”

“Answering the question would be ‘optional,’ CBP said in a notice set for publication Tuesday in the Federal Register. Those who don’t wish to answer will have their travel requests processed ‘without a negative interpretation or inference,’ the notice said.”

too white?

They've already done this to US citizens. The administration is deliberately sowing confusion and fear, knowing that the TSA and CBP workers on the ground can't be expected to keep up with the ever changing rules and just default to old-fashioned racism.

Opening the door to harass and illegally stopping African-Americans again. This is getting ugly.

For a change of pace, how about a little metaphor? No insult to the punk rock community intended, read between the lines.

without any probable cause? Keeping in mind that a large number of Chinese visitors will be posting in Cantonese, Shanghainese or some other regional dialect and, as mentioned above, on renren and weibo.com instead of Facebook and Twitter.

And will we also be employing an army of Urdu, Farsi, Arabic, French and Spanish translators?

But of course we're not going to let any immigrants in who speak any of those languages...

Because it makes so more sense to do this than it does just to let the intelligence community flag people of interest based on actual surveillance.

For someone who has a lot invested in the hospitality industry, Trump seems determined to kill tourism to the US.
