Christie: No need for special prosecutor

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who backed President Donald Trumps campaign, said Sunday that he does not think a special prosecutor is needed to investigate allegations about Trumps relationship with Russia.
The Justice Department over the course of time has shown itself with the professionals that are there to have the ability to investigate these type of things, Christie told CNNs Jake Tapper on "State of the Union." This is whether youre a Republican or a Democrat, weve seen it happen on both sides, when a special prosecutor gets involved, the thing gets completely out of control. And I think that doesn't serve anybody's purposes.
We have a lot of important problems to deal with in this country, he added. Im not saying thats not one of them, but I believe the Justice Department can handle it.
Democrats, citing Attorney General Jeff Sessions involvement with the Trump campaign, have been calling for an independent investigation into allegations that the presidents campaign aides were in contact with the Russian government before the election, as well as other suggestions of Russian meddling. Rep. Darrell Issa, a California Republican, joined in on Saturday and argued that a special prosecutor is needed to oversee the case.

Chris Christie Says White House Contact With FBI Was Result Of 'Learning Curve'
By ESME CRIBB Published FEBRUARY 26, 2017, 10:39 AM EDT
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) said Sunday that members of President Donald Trump's administration who pushed the FBI to publicly dispute reports of contact between Trump's aides and Russian officials before the election were experiencing a "learning curve."
"I don't think you get the learning curve just by winning the election," Christie told Jake Tapper on CNN's "State of the Union."
He said that members of Trump's administration will "develop experiences over time."
"I can guarantee this, I don't think the chief of staff will ever have that kind of conversation with the FBI, with FBI personnel, again," he said.
"Remember, these are all people who have never been in government before," Christie said. "And so they're going to need to learn these things."

(725 posts)Unless there was something that did happen. An independent prosecutor is the best thing because he is just that, independent (free from ties with trump.) He can find out the truth and tell the truth about what really happened.

(7,218 posts)That argument was tried in 1994 over something called "Whitewater" which, Governor, your party took the exact opposite opinion and demanded an outside prosecutor. So why then, but not now....?
