Karl Rove criticizes Romney's ‘whiny' response to Bain attacks

By Holly Bailey
July 19, 2012
Mitt Romney unveiled a more aggressive message toward President Barack Obama this week—in hopes of countering Democratic attacks on his record at Bain Capital. But GOP strategist Karl Rove still doesn't think the presumptive GOP nominee has been "presidential" enough.

In a column published in Thursday's Wall Street Journal, the former Bush White House adviser echoes criticism lobbed over the weekend by Chicago Mayor and former Obama chief of staff Rahm Emanuel that Romney has been "whiny" in his response to the Bain attacks:

The Romney campaign's response—which included whiny demands that the president apologize for his attacks—has unsettled GOP activists, causing them to wonder how prepared Mr. Romney and his team are for the mudfest they've entered. The attacks have drawn attention to the Obama campaign's demands that Mr. Romney release more years of tax returns. And they've allowed Mr. Obama to avoid talking about the continually bad economic news—the lousy June jobs numbers, last Friday's drop in consumer confidence, Tuesday's drop in retail sales and more.

The danger for Mr. Romney is that if these charges go unrefuted, they could discourage swing voters from going for him this fall when they decide whom to support. Therefore, Mr. Romney should challenge Mr. Obama directly—as he did effectively on Tuesday and Wednesday—but in a way that makes the Republican bigger and more presidential than the incumbent.

KKKarl can complain about rMoney all he wants then go out and spend millions attacking the president. His complaining just gives him the ability to "prove" to us all he is not coordinating with the campaign.

Hopefully, Democratic strategists are taking this into account.

I think that the Democrats should more strongly tie Romney to the Republican Party and to the Republican obstructionists in Congress who prevent meaningful solutions to the country's problems, especially the economic problems.

Spread Romney's "fertilizer" to other Republicans.

is the voters are going to figure out Richard Milhous Romney makes Al Capone's tax evasion look penny ante, and Obama will win the election by even more electoral votes than he did last time.

Hell, by October the GOP will be rigging the machines to flip votes to Obama...and hoping Obama investigates Romney's criminality as thoroughly as he did Bush's.

and change the American dialogue forever. This website was created because people could not believe George Bush could take control of our American dialogue. By the way,

George Bush started two wars and wrecked our economy. So don't take for granted that the American voters aren't stupid as fuck. Pardon me ladies.

The American people did not 'elect' Bush. They did acquiesce in a bloodless coup d'etat ratified by the Supreme Court.

But no one forced Gore to concede.

The 1% and their henchmen are secretly very happy with Obama. He spends plenty on the military, he keeps oil prices high with threats to Iran, he keeps tightening the screws on civil rights, continues to build the national security state, he’s declared war on whistleblowers, and makes murder from the skies routine. His healthcare plan was actually dreamed up by a conservative think-tank, decades ago.

Occasionally, he’ll throw a bone to the left – like his support for gay marriage. This is no threat to the 1%ers.

If you think Rove has gotten what he wants from Obama you're really badly informed.

They hate him because he's actually taking us in the right direction which is the opposite of where they want to go in spite of their best laid plans and efforts. Rove would love nothing more than to have another George W Bush in the White House so someone like Cheney could do the work of destroying this country.

"Rove would love nothing more than to have another George W Bush in the White House so someone like Cheney could do the work of destroying this country."

He already does!

Look at what Obama does, not at what he says ...

The Bush criminals run free and wild, the murder machine makes big bucks for the Carlyle Group, and the surveillance of the American people deepens ...

What could be Bushier than that?

He has STILL not complied with even the two year request, giving a 2010 with something missing, and a guesstimate of 2011.

Rove is wrong, as usual, and learned nothing from Lee Atwater's deathbed conversion. He figures that it doesn't apply to him. He can be the biggest asshole in the world, ruin people's lives, all for money and power, and then when he's old and passes away, he thinks he'll look back on all this with pride. He won't. He will have the same regrets Atwater did. It's as if he never saw Christmas Carol and watched the scene with Marley's ghost.
