Schiavoni of Boardman will run for governor in 2018

Source: The Vindicator

Ohio Senate Minority Leader Joe Schiavoni confirmed today he will run for governor in the 2018 Democratic primary.

“I’ve been pretty clear for a while” about my candidacy, said Schiavoni of Boardman, D-33rd.

Schiavoni’s announcement comes the same day that U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Howland, D-13th, said he wouldn’t seek the gubernatorial position.

While Schiavoni is the first Democrat to announce his candidacy for governor, he is not likely to be the last. The Senate minority leader said he’s prepared for a primary.

Ex-U.S. Rep. Betty Sutton, the former head of the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corp., said she will announce next week her decision on running for governor. She is expected to seek the Democratic Party’s nomination.

I'm inclined to say someone from Ohio politics rather than Washington is a preferred choice.

But if he's got his shit together at levels even 50% over what Ed FitzGerald did, I will support him. I can't imagine anyone could possibly do any worse, but then these are the Ohio Dems that leave their lunch money out on the table for the GOP-bully to take, and they still get beat up anyway.

Personally, I've been hoping for Cordray to come back and run--he's probably the strongest and best the Ohio Dems have at this point, but he's still heading the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, at least until 45 is able to fire him.

Would love to see Cordray get his rematch against DeWine and send him back into retirement, for good this time. DeWine beat him narrowly out of being re-elected as Ohio AG back in 2010--same election that gave us the insufferable Ka-suck for Governor. I am so sick of Republican rule in this state. We need to give them a real comeuppance.
