Top Senate Democrat says unlikely Trump court pick can clear procedural hurdle

Source: Reuters

The top Democrat in the U.S. Senate said on Sunday it was "highly, highly unlikely" that Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch would garner enough support this week to clear a procedural hurdle to a final vote.

Democrats are nearly unified in their opposition to President Donald's Trump's court pick and intend to filibuster the nomination, which would force Republicans to come up with 60 votes to move forward. Republicans control the Senate 52-48.

"It's highly, highly unlikely that he'll get to 60," Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Eight Democrats would need to side with Republicans to break a filibuster. So far, only two Democrats have voiced support for Gorsuch, while 36 have indicated support for a filibuster.

And I believe Schumer both said that they would change the rule immediately if Clinton won and the Dems controlled the Senate.
That obviously changed on November 9th, 2016.

They were threatening to go nuclear if Clinton won and the Republicans followed through on their own threat to obstruct her SC nominations for 4 years.

It would be appropriate in his case given how the GOP obstructed, however there is no fucking reason on earth for the gop to do it.

They may have to go nuclear to do it though. We'll then have to pray that nothing bad health-wise or anything happens to the four "left-leaning" members for the next 3.5 years because they'll have a rubber stamp at that point and there won't be any way to stop them.

Let the GOP tag themselves as the turd blossoms they are. It will be remembered in the voting booth.
