JEFFERSON CITY A Missouri state senator is threatening to derail a bid to boost taxes for the St. Louis Zoo because of the citys decision to ban employers and landlords from discriminating against women who have had an abortion.
Sen. Bob Onder, R-Lake Saint Louis, linked the two issues together during a lengthy debate on the Senate floor Wednesday, saying hes wary of supporting a push to tax residents in counties surrounding St. Louis when the city has made itself what he calls an abortion sanctuary city."
Under an amendment filed to the zoo tax proposal, Onder said the zoo should have to change its name to The Midwest Abortion Sanctuary City Zoological Park.

(12,650 posts)Second, how would anyone know if any particular abortion procedure was used during pregnancy? Abortion is a series of medical procedures that are also used to save a woman's life or her ability to bear children not only in cases where a pregnancy has gone wrong, but when there's certain types of ovarian abnormalities that need to be removed.
Third, how is it anyone's business whether or not a woman has had an abortion?
There used to be a bunch of anti-choicers who would take pictures of women going into Planned Parenthood and pasting them all over their Facebook portal for like-minded Christianist perverts - claiming that some poor woman going in for a Pap smear or general OBGYN care was going several times a year in "to kill her precious little baybees"...like she was a veritable incarnation of Lillith, or Medea, or someone like that.
If the city of St. Louis had to go to that much trouble to protect women against discrimination "for having an abortion", methinks there's a crapload of lying anti-women's health cultists living in Missouri...and it's about time to blow the lid on those evil liars, and sue the whole bunch of them for the actual harm such fairy tale libel does to a community.
One can have free speech, but the price for free speech is you must take responsibility for it...

(26,620 posts)How does an employer or landlord even find out if a woman has had an abortion? Why is this even an issue?
The article links to another article about the state legislature overriding local ordinances for whatever strange reason. When Colorado passed an amendment to stop localities from passing protections for homosexuals, it was eventually ruled unconstitutional because it singled out a group to discriminate against. This looks very similar.

(10,303 posts)Zoo can change its name to whatever the heck it wants.
Everyone will still call it St. Louis Zoo.
Like there's this popular fast food chain. The parent company is Doctors' Associates, Inc. Everyone else calls it Subway.
Zoo can easily change its name, and do a company restructuring. It'll create a bit of paperwork for some lawyers, and the zoo does business as usual.
In addition the zoo can have some fun by naming something after him. I suggest a nice reptile.
Edit to add: plus zoo doesn't need state government to approve the naming of an animal. I suggest a Democrat with some means go ahead and adopt the reptile anyway.

These pseudo-religious freaks piss me off like no other. I wish there WAS a god, so that it could send me to their heaven as nothing could ever be more torturous to me than eternity with fundies....but the joke is on them, because their 'heaven' is by definition my 'hell', meaning I would have a modicum of enjoyment from ruining their happiness for eternity!!
Until then, FUCK YOU Bob, you disgusting human waste.

(113,284 posts)Onder said there was little difference between him trying to stop the zoo tax and Democrats trying to block the legislation affecting the citys abortion ordinance.
The measure pending in the Legislature (http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/govt-and-politics/abortion-restrictions-including--week-abortion-ban-getting-push-from/article_954c84aa-ecec-5c72-bc60-95a81a43b42a.html) would block cities such as St. Louis from enacting laws that would infringe on the free speech and religious rights of alternatives to abortion agencies or facilities that counsel pregnant women against abortion.
haele
(12,650 posts)- to post that they are a counseling clinic and are not licensed to dispense medical advice concerning pregnancies (i.e., no "you'll have a higher risk of lady parts cancer if you get an abortion" scare tactics). They also have to clearly post where the patient can find licensed family planning and OB/GYN facilities.
Man, you could have heard the screaming from the pulpits for miles every Sunday for a couple months.
Funny, it's all "First Amendment / Religious Rights" to them, even though the State explicitly informed them the cheapskate Forced-Birther scammers can't legally claim to be medical practitioners unless they have a registered Doctor - or at least a registered PA - on the premises during operational hours.
Once there's a medical complication with one of their "patients" that ends in a lifetime disability or fatality, they'll just fold up shop and try to hide behind their Religion while they set up a scam to prey on fearful women somewhere else. They're as much medical frauds as the back-street abortionists they intend to bring back.
