Additional security for DeVos may cost up to $7.8 million

Source: MSN/Associated Press

WASHINGTON — Government officials said Friday that Education Secretary Betsy DeVos requires additional security detail due to a threat to her safety and that it may cost up to $7.8 million through September to protect her.

The U.S. Marshals Service said in a statement that a threat assessment was conducted in February and DeVos was put under additional protection. The statement did not provide details on the threat or the number of personnel assigned to her.

The agency said it will be reimbursed $7.78 million from the Education Department for services from February through September.

The Education Department said that's a projected, not a final figure. The move comes amid a proposal by the Trump administration to cut the department's budget by 13 percent.

Security for Betsy DeVos Costing Education Dept. Nearly $8M for 8 Months

by Safia Samee Ali

The U.S Marshals Service is providing unprecedented protective detail to Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, and the added security will be costing her agency almost $1 million per month, the marshals service said Friday.

The stepped up security began in February, following a threat assessment ordered by the U.S. Attorney General, the marshals service said. The agency only said it determined a threat to her safety exists, and did not elaborate.

Under an agreement between the marshals service and the Department of Education, the education department will reimburse the marshals service $7.78 million for security for the nearly eight months from Feb. 13 through September, and the protection will continue for the next four years.

If the current reimbursement rate remains the same, that totals to around $1 million per month.

.... DeVos' nomination was controversial not only in Congress but by parents and teachers who protested across the nation. She was narrowly confirmed after Vice President Mike Pence broke a 50-50 tie in the Senate for the first time in congressional history.

Previously, members of an in-house security team guard the secretary, and those individuals remain on the payroll but have not been assigned new duties, the Washington Post reported.

Meanwhile, the Marshals Service is hiring nearly two dozen people specifically to guard DeVos, the Washington Post reports.

She will tell you that no good deeds will save your miserable soul -- which is why she doesn't believe in good deeds. When one looks at a likely predetermined eternity of torture in the face after death, one takes what one can during life, and fuck everybody else.

And that's what her entire family believes. And half of west Michigan around Grand Rapids and Holland.

They are fucking barking mad. All of them.

The g o pee version of normal -- appoint an Ed Secretary so radical that they need a million dollars worth of security. Like we've ever before seen an ancillary cabinet official like her need witness protection levels of bodyguarding.

Why doesn't the bircher freak get her brother to provide some mercs for her 'safety', gratis? The 'threat' sounds like the usual lying b.s. from the repugs, to boot.

Why does a Secretary of Education need or deserve any security, much less extra security? I realize she's hated (for good reason). But it's not like she's Sec of State or Defense where if something happened to those people it could cause real problems for the country.

Instead of draining the swamp, they're draining our Treasury into their own pockets.

This disgusts me to no end, in addition to dump going to Florida every weekend.
