Sen. Collins says she may run for Maine governor in 2018

The state's senior U.S. senator says she's looking at where she can do the most good for citizens

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins said Tuesday she was seriously contemplating a run for Maine governor in 2018, her most definitive statement yet on a topic that has long been the subject of political speculation.

The Republican senior senator has mostly demurred on the subject when questioned by reporters seeking to identify prospective candidates to succeed Gov. Paul LePage in the Blaine House. But in an interview Tuesday morning, Collins told WGAN radio hosts Matthew Gagnon and Ken Altshuler in response to a question about her plans that she was giving serious thought to running.

“Let me say that I am looking at where I can do the most good for the people of Maine,” said Collins, who has served in the Senate for 20 years. “In the Senate I now have significant seniority and that allows me to do a lot.

After eight years of the Mucilage Man, the odds of another Republican being elected to statewide office in Maine are somewhere between "slim" and "none." Susan Collins' withdrawal from the Senate to try to run for governor will have two effects: a Democrat in Blaine House and another Democratic senator.

Is she a popular Senator in Maine? Could that propel her to the governorship? I'm confident that that red seat would, almost, assuredly flip to blue.😁

1. Dem Senator from Maine

2. If she wins, she will be much better than that idiot in there now, and I am also betting the only GOP who would win after him would be Olympia Snow.

That part sucks. LePage talks about running for senator himself. I'm hoping we get that ranked choice voting system set up before then because he'd never win with that kind of voting system.

If Democrats ran the Senate Gorsuch would not be on the Supreme Court today. Admittedly, if I could choose just one Republican Senator to replace, Collins would be far from the top of my list. But hers is one vote that Schumer will never get while she remains in the Senate.

If the GOP had the votes to kill Obamacare in the Senate - without her vote - she would side with the Dems.

And Obamacare would still go away.

That is her MO - and Maine Dems know this.

apparently she forgot what Article II Section 3 means she selectively likes to do whatever she wants when it comes to the U.S. Constitution----------------she is a hypocrite, that vote says everything, she supported what this right wing fascist did for Hobby Lobby, Transcom, just to name a few

Gorsuch is not my U.S. Supreme Court Justice

From article:

"Were Collins to run and be elected, she would have to resign her Senate seat with two years remaining in her term.

That would allow LePage to appoint a replacement for the unexpired term."

Let me just add this nonsense quote - "Let me say that I am looking at where I can do the most good for the people of Maine"

So presumptuous.

Who would run as Democrat in Governor's race?

She can shove her moderate bullshit right where the sun don't shine.

Always playing the "oh I'm so reasonable" tag, but then voting right in lockstep with frickin Ted Cruz.

Sorry Collins. You too "own" this pussy grabbing piece of shit your fucking party saddled the entire fucking planet with.

Go to hell
