North Carolina House Bill Would Redefine Marriage As Only Heterosexual

Source: Talking Points Memo

By MATT SHUHAM Published APRIL 11, 2017, 5:56 PM EDT

Three Republicans in North Carolina’s House of Representatives have introduced a bill to reverse the Supreme Court’s marriage equality ruling in the state.

H.B. 780, reported by WNCN Tuesday, states that the Supreme Court’s ruling declaring that same-sex couples are guaranteed the right to marry overstepped the court’s constitutional bounds.

The ruling also, according to the bill’s three primary Republican sponsors, “exceeds the authority of the Court relative to the decree of Almighty God that "a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh" (Genesis 2:24, ESV) and abrogates the clear meaning and understanding of marriage in all societies throughout prior history.” Legal experts are dubious that the Supreme Court ruling would be overturned.

A similar bill in Tennessee to recognize only those marriages between one man and one woman, the Natural Marriage Defense Act, was delayed recently pending the results of two lawsuits related to same-sex marriage in the state, the Tennessean reported.

aargh.

i don't belong here.

i've come to believe that these people who go after LGBTQ and transgender people are perverts. who cares so much about a stranger's sex life?!

as for the religious angle, oh for chrissake! the republicans running the state (into the ground) are obviously christian in name only. they are mean, cruel, craven, motherfuckers.

it's so excruciating. it's lovely here (except during the sweat, otherwise known as summer). My family and i have done so well here, we were literally lifted out of poverty. i want to go home, but it's California - every time i check out the cost of real estate or any place to live, i can't move. i can't move. excruciating.

i think NC is associated with the birth of the KKK. not entirely sure. but there are plenty of overt racists. and all through the country institutionalized racism is fucking with generations of people. i am in a blue area (durham) but even here there are the haves and the have nots and it is lamentable. in 2017 no less.

Any crank legislator from pig's knuckle can introduce legislation. Actually getting it passed, particularly if it's as patently unconstitutional as this one, is an entirely different subject.

Leviticus 11.7: "And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet he cheweth not the cud, he is unclean to you." Hence, no more pulled pork barbecue.

Leviticus 11.10-12: "And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the river, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination to you. They shall be even an abomination to you; but ye shall have their carcasses in abomination. Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you." So, no catfish, shrimp, crayfish or oysters. (For the record, there are more verses about the evils of oysters (three in Lev. 11) than there are about homosexuality (one in Lev. 18, one in Lev. 20)...but this hasn't stopped any of the churches down there from profiting on oyster roasts.

Lev. 11-20 says "all fowls that creep, going upon all four, shall be an abomination unto you." Since domesticated chickens and turkeys can't fly...

...would that make eating them an abomination? Or just the skinless, boneless ones? For REAL abomination, try a bacon-wrapped turkey with oyster dressing and shrimp cocktails for appetizers. Yeah, these assholes will get to the Pearly Gates..."nope, you can't come in, I saw what you served for Christmas dinner last year. You think we didn't notice that big-ass ham in the middle of the table?"

Here's the biggest problem these knuckleheads have: You're going to see a lot of these kinds of cases in the next couple of years, and they all have one goal: Overturn Obergefell v. Hodges. The five justices who voted to uphold Obergefell are still on the Supreme Court.

Where in theConstitutionn is this supernatural entity, which can't be demonstrated to exist and will never show up in court anyway, where is this thing given any authority in law?
