In joint appearance, Cuomo, Clinton hail free college tuition

In a relatively rare appearance since her Election Day loss in November, former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton appeared with Gov. Andrew Cuomo Wednesday to hail the passage of tuition-free state college for families with an income less than $125,000 in New York.

The measure – passed in the state budget on Sunday – is the first of its kind in the nation, and an idea brought to the fore during the Democratic presidential primary by both Clinton and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Cuomo will automatically serve as a delegate at the Democratic National Convention; he formally endorsed Clinton almost a year ago. Cuomo said it was an “outrageously ambitious idea, but an irrefutably smart idea.” He credited Clinton as “the inspiration for the idea” and called Clinton “our inspiration, and our champion.”

“I’ll take it, I’ll take it,” Clinton said, taking the podium at LaGuardia Community College in Queens.

The idea is not to cripple people with large education debts after they graduate.

"There is no more important issue than education."
"I am here to today to reinforce what the governor has accomplished. He is absolutely right: education and training are the future," Clinton said. "The Excelsior Scholarship is going to send a message of hope to families."
"We don't need to be building walls," she said. "We need to be building bridges. And the best bridge to the future is a good education, my friends."

God Bless Hillary Clinton!

...any tuition if they remain in the state after they graduate for the same number of years that they attended school.

I love Cuomo for giving credit where credit is due. Gov. Andrew Cuomo is a good man, I applaud him. This is truly what the Democratic Party is about, a sharing of ideas and working together to build a strong party.

wasn't it? That is a better, and more sensible idea, than free college for everyone. Those who make more can afford college more readily.

I am glad Cuomo is sharing.

Cuomo is a great man for pointing that fact out. Some people co-opt others ideas and not share the credit. I am so happy for the students in NY today. May they shine in our future.
