GOP rep: 'Bullcrap' to say taxpayers pay my salary

Source: The Hill

BY NIKITA VLADIMIROV - 04/13/17 09:07 AM EDT

Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) faced off with constituents at a town hall this week, telling the audience that they don't pay his salary.

"You say you pay for me to do this? That’s bullcrap," Mullin said at the town hall in Jay, Okla., according to a video of the incident.

"I pay for myself. I paid enough taxes before I got here and continue to through my company to pay my own salary. This is a service. No one here pays me to go,” he added. After constituents pushed back, Mullin reiterated that being a lawmaker is not "how I make my living."

“I’m just saying ... this is a service for me, not a career, and I thank God this is not how I make my living,” he said.

or likely even in this district,we would indeed have the peaceful "revolution" the Constitution makes our right every two years. Everything wrong with the people we elect is our fault and our problem to correct.

As for this guy, his astonishing arrogance and stupidity earned him coverage in not just The Hill for his colleagues to shake their heads over, but across the nation. This contempt for their sovereignty is just the kind of thing voters can understand very well, and this is going to follow him right into 2018.

Demonizing all wealthy people is no better then demonizing all progressives, a conservatives, all black people, all white people, all Jews, all Muslims, all Christians, all men all women, all teenagers. I think you get the point.

It seems one of America's biggest problems is people needing to feel superior to others instead of embracing each other as equals.

For simplicity lets treat discretionary spending and income taxes as being the total spending and revenue stream.

His salary, approximately $200K, is 0.0000018%, of that total.

For reference defense spending and paying for past wars would account for 60.5% (and this does not include the nuclear program).

MULLIN A NO-SHOW

Congressman cancels town hall, cites 'safety concerns'

By Sean Rowley srowley@tahlequahdailypress.com

Apr 12, 2017

Dozens of Cherokee County residents, whether critical or supportive, left the Sequoyah High School gymnasium in disappointment Tuesday after Republican U.S. Congressman Markwayne Mullin abruptly scrubbed a scheduled town hall meeting. ... On his Twitter account, Mullin wrote, "Due to safety concerns, tonight's town hall meeting at Sequoyah HS has been cancelled. We will reschedule for another for Cherokee Co."

A number of "boos" cascaded onto Mullin's chief of staff, Tahlequah resident Michael Stopp, as he announced around 5:15 p.m. the cancellation of the 5:30 town hall. Stopp cited "unforeseen circumstances," and also said the town hall would be rescheduled.

The Press sent Stopp a private message through Facebook at 7:21 p.m., asking for a statement from Mullin. Stopp responded just a few minutes later, saying, "We are sending one shortly." However, by 8:45 p.m., with deadline approaching, Stopp had not sent a comment, though several more requests were sent. It did not appear Stopp had been on Facebook after the first brief exchange.

However, Mullin did send a statement to a Tulsa TV station shortly after 8:30 p.m.: "Due to safety concerns, tonight's town hall in Tahlequah was cancelled," Mullin said. "Over the past few weeks, we have seen an escalation of protestors at congressional town halls across the nation. We have even seen them right here in the Second District. I have continued to hold town halls and answer questions from constituents across the district, including those who have been vocal in their disapproval of my positions."

46. Probably Feels Different About Social Security Recipients
Thu Apr 13, 2017, 04:56 PM
Apr 2017

I bet Markwayne Mullin does not feel the same way about Social Security recipients. This guy is paid about $174,000 per year. There are very few Social security recipients who get that much in benefits per year. However, he likely does what many Republican do in regards to Social Security, call it an entitlement and pushes for cuts in benefits to elderly recipients, or asks for the retirement age to be lifted. He probably has an even worse view of people receiving SNAP and other government benefits. I guess the money taken from social program recipients does not cover the amount of money spent on the benefits they receive.

Anyone who gets paid $174,000 per year for a job is making a living from that job. Yes, the taxpayers pay his salary. If everyone in America stopped paying taxes there would not be enough money to pay his salary. If taxes from his business was the only revenue being brought in by the government there would not be enough money to pay for his salary.

49. Some Bad Reviews For His Plumbing Company
Thu Apr 13, 2017, 05:30 PM
Apr 2017

There are some very bad reviews of his company, Mullin Plumbing. I looked over reviews at Yelp and Yahoo. One of the bad reviews at Yelp is based on what Mullin said about not being paid by taxpayers. One other bad review might be based on what Mullin said in that the review was posted today. However, the rest of the bad reviews were posted a few months to a year or more before Mullin made his comment. The bad reviews at Yahoo seem to be real and not politically motivated. Those reviews were made in 2016 or earlier.
