Trump Signals Willingness to Drop Border Wall Funding in Budget Standoff

Source: NBC News

President Donald Trump has indicated that he's willing to back away from his demand that a government funding bill include money to build a wall on the Southern border, a move that could help clear the way for Congress to avoid a shutdown.

A senior administration official tells NBC News that the president is open to obtaining funding for the border wall in the regular appropriations process for 2018 later this year instead of insisting it be included as part of the large spending bill to keep the government's lights on past this week.

Such a development would be welcome news on Capitol Hill as congressional negotiators struggled to work past the administration's demands that few members wanted.

"It's good for the country that President Trump is taking the wall off the table in these negotiations," Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said in a statement Monday night after reports of the president's posture circulated. "Now the bipartisan and bicameral negotiators can continue working on the outstanding issues."

It would have been interesting if Trump had forced a shut down to see Spicer tie himself into knots explaining why taxpayers are paying for the wall, rather than Mexico.

The mean old minority of Democrats forced him to. Maybe by next year Mexico will have wised up and agreed to pay for it.

4. Or why, as the minority party, it would be all the Democrat's fault if the shutdown happened.

They keep acting like they're the minority party and keep trying to blame their failures on the Democrats. It's beyond old. I'm sure that McConnell & especially Ryan still wish they were in the minority because they could just keep bitching, moaning, and obstructing. Now when the American people expect them to show results, they are are showing themselves to be utterly unfit and incapable of governing.

That a few Democrats can make the "toughest negotiator in the world", the guy who is the originator of "The Art of the Deal", look like a complete political neophyte wearing clown shoes?

The Senate - controlled by Republicans, the House - controlled by Republicans, a lopsided right-leaning Supreme Court, the White House - controlled by a Republican, the vast majority of Governors in our country - controlled by Republicans, and..........they're COMPLETELY IMPOTENT because of a minority of Democrats in all of these areas?

I guess some Supreme Leader of the cosmos has decided to give the Republicans legislative constipation. The Supreme Leader has castrated the GOP. A lovely thought, to be sure, but imagine what the universe would be like CONTROLLED BY DEMOCRATS!
Oh, the power they would wield if they were the majority!

Once again, they've been lied to. Once again, their messiah has been shown to have feet of clay.

They too will blame it on the Democrats, and those malignant GOPers who just WON'T get on the Trump bandwagon.

One thing they'll never do; assign ANY of the blame to their cult leader, Trump.

I know my boss doesn't care, all she cares about is that Hillary didn't get it and that Repugs are in charge. Her husband is a physician and she is part of Sr. Leadership and they can afford to pay for healthcare for their adult kids that don't have it through their jobs. She has no compassion for anyone else, no caring about immigrants, people who will die for lack of healthcare, people who will die because of bad air and water, doesn;t move the needle for her. She just another one of the bottom of the 1% who only cares for herself.
