Republicans offer spending plan without border wall

Source: The Washington Post

By Kelsey Snell and Ed O'Keefe April 25 at 2:15 PM

A Republican bid to keep the government open past Friday includes no new money for the construction of a border wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, according to several congressional aides familiar with ongoing talks.

With congressional Republicans eager to avoid shutting down the government over a spending impasse, GOP leaders submitted a new offer to Democrats on Tuesday afternoon that included no funding for the wall, several House and Senate aides said. But Republicans are insisting on increases in border security and defense spending.

Part of the new border security funding would go to repairing existing fencing and new surveillance technology to patrol the nearly 2,000-mile border.

The two sides remain at odds over whether the spending bill would include money for subsidy payments under the Affordable Care Act, how long to extend a health-care program for coal miners, and a series of unrelated policy measures known typically known as riders.

How to Build Trump’s Wall - Privatize It

Republicans have often found a way to tax people surreptitiously by privatizing many public works projects to corporations rather than have gov’t pay for it. A fee is a tax under another name.

The corporations/investors are granted a multi-year license with a guaranteed profit.

This could also be done with Trump’s Wall with Mexico.

Corporations/investors front the money to build it and they will be paid by Mexico.

It gives republicans a chance to save the gov’t money and show their confidence in Trump’s word that Mexico will pay for it by investing in it.

No gov’t backed bonds.

No cost to the gov’t,,, no need for taxes,,, profit for the patriotic investors who believe in Trump.

Win win all around.

Even Trump can show his patriotism and shrewd business savvy by investing in it.

Any increase in border security funds along our Southern border (where immigration has diminished sharply over the last few years) is
unnecessary, in fact based on this decline in traffic, money should be cut from the ample budget they already have.

The only kind of "security" that needs increased funding for any of our national defense or security is cyber security as proven by Russia's highly successful attack upon us...contributing to us now having a President who himself is a major threat to our safety, security and our democracy itself.

8. "subsidy payments" not exactly right term. Besides they SAVE the taxpayers MONEY

They SAVE $2 or $3 Billion a year, net when all is properly accounted for, according to a hospital foundation that studied the issue.

Don't let the RepubliCON lie stand. Too many people will be damaged in the process.

Democrat House members: Stand your ground and protect the ACA (Obamacare). I really dislike government shutdowns but if the majority Republicons can't pass a funding bill on their own or offer a clean bill for Democrats to support, then it is on the Republicons to shut down government. Don't let them frame it any other way.

that his border wall is about 35 years too late?

They're here, they're working, the Mexican economy is industrializing,
it's counterproductive to build his wall.

How much will it cost to prevent a new illegal immigrant's crossing into
the US?

I mean to say, if that ever was a sane or moral goal, in 35 years it might
have cost $200 per immigrant. Now far fewer arrive, so that figure might
be I don't know ... if the wall costs $20 billion and stops 10,000 illegals,
then it cost $2 million each to stop a border crossing.

The economics of this Trump brainstorm make no sense!

Every damned year repukes want an increase in defense spending. Our military budget far exceeds any other country in the world, how much more could we possibly need. Hell, we have military bases in over 100 countries around the world..... WHY? It's way past time to cut military spending and start investing in education, infrastructure, healthcare, etc.
