Trump's Sanctuary Cities Order Blocked by Federal Judge

Source: Bloomberg

by Kartikay Mehrotra
April 25, 2017, 4:07 PM EDT April 25, 2017, 4:22 PM EDT

A San Francisco judge barred enforcement of President Donald Trumps executive order withholding funds from so-called sanctuary cities that fail to comply with federal immigration demands by shielding undocumented immigrants.

San Francisco and its Silicon Valley neighbor, Santa Clara County, on Tuesday both won preliminary injunctions blocking the Jan. 25 edict by Trump who declared that sanctuary jurisdictions cause immeasurable harm to the American people and to the very fabric of our republic." The city and county argued the presidents order violated the Constitution and threatened to deprive them of funding for local programs.

The federal government may ask the U.S. Court of Appeals in San Francisco to overturn the ruling.

A victory for the city and county could reinforce similar policies in some of the nations largest cities, including New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. Its another blow to Trumps call to tighten U.S. borders and crack down on those living in the U.S. illegally. Hes already lost multiple bids to impose a travel ban against citizens of six mostly Muslim countries.

If there was doubt about the scope of the Order, the President and Attorney General have erased it with their public comments ... The Constitution vests the spending power in Congress, not the President, so the Order cannot constitutionally place new conditions on federal funds.

It's like they are probing and testing the Constitution for "weaknesses". I suppose that is what they do when it comes to their money laundering and tax evasion.

Their idea is that competing self interests are what the Constitution sets political game plan rules for, rather than being what it actually says, a blueprint for expanding indefinitely and for all, "life, liberty and ..." "All" means whoever is here. Now. No exclusions.

The Feds can only withhold funds if they have detailed restrictions to getting the funds in the first place before any funds are distributed, i.e.: as a condition for receiving the funds.

A competent businessman would have got together with Congress and negotiated a deal to enacted Constitutional legislation instead of slapping together another blatantly unconstitutional executive order, but the good news is Trump is about as far from a competent businessman as you can get.

He'll never be anything more than a reality TV game show host. The training wheels are never coming off.

He simply lacks the intellect to do anything beyond tweeting, golfing, or whining about cable news, which is an absolute blessing considering how Democrats screwed up enough to lose both branches of Congress, the White House, and the Supreme Court.

Luckily for us as a nation the most dangerous man to ever step foot in the White House is also the most incompetent one too, and he's too emotionally fragile and insecure to hire anyone who will show him up

As long as he continues to focus on conning his supporters into believing he's getting things done, instead of trying to actually get things done, the damage can be minimized.
