Feinstein calls for deputy AG to name special prosecutor or resign
Source: The Hill
A second key Senate Democrat is calling on Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to resign if he does not name a special prosecutor to handle the investigation into Russia's election interference.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) said in a statement that she supports "Senator Durbins call for Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to resign if he is unwilling to appoint a special counsel. These investigations are far too important to risk disruption, delay or interference."
Feinstein's comments were part of a larger statement calling for the Judiciary Committee to hold hearings on President Trump's decision to fire FBI Director James Comey. Feinstein is the ranking Democrat on the committee.

Feinstein and Durbin's statements come less than a month after senators voted 94-6 to make Rosenstein the No. 2 DOJ official. Both Feinstein and Durbin supported his nomination.

(14,167 posts)I actually think he will probably end up naming one, if the FBI investigation doesn't produce results this year.

One source says Rosenstein isn't inclined to make a change unless the FBI investigation appears to be imperiled. And at this point, FBI officials are confident that the investigation is moving ahead, despite Comey's abrupt firing earlier this week.

(22,912 posts)The acting Director was/is a fervent Comey loyalist He is under no illusion about Trump rewarding him with a permanent appointment so he won't be bought off. So as long as he remains Acting Director the investigation goes on, since he is the only one with the power to move key agents off of it. As soon as Trump installs a new Director that all changes.

(7,153 posts)No matter what Democrats may wish, in my opinion it would take the other party becoming disillusioned with the FBI (along with "all" the Democrats) to have a call for a special counsel succeed. I don't think they're at that point yet.

(9,865 posts)......to appoint a loyal lackey in any event. There are no Republicans of honor in power any more. The AG appointment will be another layer of the cover-up.
I think the streets and each other are all we've got.
