Callista Gingrich set to be named ambassador to the Vatican

Source: CNN

Washington (CNN)Callista Gingrich, the wife of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, is the preferred nominee to be the next ambassador to the Vatican.

The White House hopes to announce her nomination before President Donald Trump meets with Pope Francis on May 24 in Rome.

The decision to nominate Gingrich has been made, but the announcement has taken longer than expected pending approval from the Office of Government Ethics, an administration official said.

The White House hopes to formally nominate Gingrich as soon as this week.
Gingrich is a devout Catholic, telling the Christian Broadcasting Network in a 2011 interview that she has "always been a very spiritual person."

The Vatican is normally strict about rejecting ambassadorial appointments if the nominee was, for instance, divorced, or is a known adulterer.

Frau Gingrich is not only an adultress and a home wrecker, she probably engages in black masses too.

Strangely enough if he demonstrates that he had no intention of being faithful to either wife that invalidates the marriages and gives him grounds for an annulment.

28. If the marriage is invalid it's invalid for both parties.
Sun May 14, 2017, 03:20 PM
May 2017

The first marriage would be considered invalid because his first wife had been previously married and had not had an annullment (neither marriage was Catholic, but the church recognizes outside marriages and does not recognize civil divorce, so it would consider her marriage to Newt to be bigamy and thus invalid.)

The second marriage is invalid for the same reason on Newt's part.

His behavior would contribute to the case that the marriages were invalid because he demonstrated that he did not intend to honor his vows and form a lifelong relationship. But even with perfect behavior the serial monogamy of all parties involved is grounds for invalidating their marriages.

Fees to the diocese for an annulment are about a grand, but he probably shelled out a pretty penny for professionals to write the documents and walk the paperwork through. The good news for him is that since the previous wives, being civilly divorced from him and not Catholic, had no incentive to dispute the annulment.

of the ceremony that it doesn't count (plus some other stuff, for example you can't have a Catholic marriage if you're a man who is paralyzed below the waist because you can't consummate the marriage.)

So if Newt writes a little position paper and has an interview and has a few buddies to back up his story that he was a total manwhore and never intended to be faithful to wives #1 and 2, the church will consider those marriages invalid. But the kids (he has some from marriage #1) will still be considered legitimate because the couple assumed their marriage was valid at the time of birth.

Also money changes hands. If you're powerful basically you don't get declined for an annulment unless your wife's uncle is holding the Pope captive (that's a Henry VIII joke, kids. I don't get to make many of those.) Two thousand years of precedent and loopholes mean there's undoubtedly one that applies in most any circumstance and professionals exist just to find them for you and prepare the necessary documents.

...idea is, for the most part, a bunch of BS. Either you were married, or you weren't. I can see it in some narrow circumstances - one or both parties under the age of majority at the time of the marriage; coercion of some kind; mental status sufficiently impaired by reduced capacity of drugs/alcohol that one truly did not know what one was doing. Also, duration of the marriage seems relevant.

Gingrich was with the first wife from 1962-1981, second one from 1981-2000, #3 since 2000.

19 years for the first 2 wives. Callista is at 17. Maybe Callista's expiration date is coming up in a couple of years.

I'm not Catholic, nor Christian (happily questioning UU), but this is unseemly and disrespectful.

Anyone married to a divorced partner whose prior marriages haven't been sanitized by expensive Catholic annulments is considered an adulterer/adulteress under church law.
