@Lindsey McPherson
Speaker Paul D. Ryan is acutely aware that Republicans will be attacked over the health care bill that his chamber passed a few weeks ago, but the Wisconsin Republican felt that inaction was not an option.
Ill accept that we will get hit for this, Ryan said Wednesday at an Axios News Shapers event. But were in leadership. We dont have a choice.
What are we supposed to do, just sit back and let this thing collapse?
The speaker has consistently made the case that the 2010 health care law is collapsing and its incumbent upon Republicans to fulfill their campaign promise to repeal and replace it.
While he understands the GOP will be attacked over their bill, the American Health Care Act, he feels Republicans will ultimately be rewarded in the 2018 midterm election for fulfilling their campaign promises. I think theyre excellent because were in the midst of keeping our promises, Ryan said when asked about the chances the GOP will keep control of the House.

(7,632 posts)at THEIR expense, just disguised as a "health care bill" they'd freak. Fox will spin and distract tho' so no worries. By putting off it's effects for two or three years, the GOP hopes the rubes won't notice.
Their constituents weren't all that anxious to have the ACA repealed anyway - that's a bunch of shit. Once they and their relatives and friend start dying from the effects they'll wake up - but by then it will be too late.

(9,426 posts)keep getting re-elected? Gerrymandering districts? He is a big, big problem with the leadership of the country. Pamper the rich, screw over the taxpayers. Once the tape of him and McConnell discussing "laundering Russian money through the RNC" maybe people will finally WAKE UP. They KNEW tRump was going to be in the WH, that is why McConnell refused to hold hearings on the Garland SC nomination. He repeatedly said "The next president will fill the SC seat" His "wife" got a government job as payoff, and large donations to his Pac and the RNC. The repubs. are up to their eyeballs in this Russian scandal. McConnell has no chin, and no ethics, either. Ryan is just an all around scumbag.

(13,424 posts)All they need to do is shift the current ACA subsidies from private insurance to Medicare and let anyone and everyone buy into it using those subsidies. No outrageous deductibles. No sky high yearly premium increases. No worries about lack of insurers covering a region. No more bitching about an individual mandate. True small employers could afford coverage for their employees.
It would not take much time or work to vastly improve the ACA but the Republicans would rather screw America by destroying health care for millions so the 1% can have tax cuts they don't need and won't spend.

(16,646 posts)The system relied upon being maintained. It is not being maintained. Heck, if you don't fill the tank on a car, pretty soon it will stop running. That's not a design flaw, that's a maintenance problem. Obama implored them a few years ago to maintain it while he was even on duty. They refused. He did what he could, but without him, the system will fall into disarray.

(32 posts)Majority of Americans: If you mean Obamacare? No! But, if you're referring to Trumpcare/Ryancare? Then yes! Let it collapse. Good leadership means sometimes admitting you were wrong and made a mistake, not doubling down on a terrible fucking idea. Go and listen (and misinterpret Rage Against the Machine) while "blastin' your quads" and "makin' gainz, bruh", you empty suited meathead.
