UK General Election 2017 polls: Jeremy Corbyn's Labour narrows gap with Tories to just three points

Source: Evening Standard

Labour has narrowed the gap with the Conservatives to a new low of three points as Jeremy Corbyn’s party won its highest poll result for more than three years.

The latest poll by YouGov for The Times put the Conservatives on 42 per cent, down one point since the end of last week and the party’s lowest rating since before Theresa May called the General Election.

Labour gained three points to reach 39 per cent, while the Lib Dems were on seven per cent and Ukip on four.

With just a week to go until polling day, the latest survey will cause nerves in Tory HQ. It comes a day after a controversial seat-by-seat projection by YouGov predicted the Conservatives could lose 20 seats and Labour gain 28 seats, leading to a hung Parliament.

YouGov has also projected that the Conservatives may lose enough seats to require a coalition Government.

A month ago she was golden, but last night she didn't show up at the BBC debate and her surrogate was cut to ribbons by the seven who did, including Corbyn, especially over austerity. What a difference a French election makes eh?

The Tories proposed changing a rule about how your assets are assessed if the elderly need paid-for care at home. Currently, if you have more than £20k in savings or investments, you have to pay for it yourself - but the value of your home isn't counted. They proposed making it £100k, but that would include the value of your home (and nearly all homes in the UK are worth more than £80k). So the state would be owed money for your care that would mean your house would have to be sold after you died. This was quickly dubbed the "dementia tax", and May did a quick policy U turn, saying there'd be some kind of cap on how much you paid - without saying how much.

And that was the moment the Tories starting nose-diving in the polls. Pensioners who have bought their own houses are their core constituency, and they hate the idea.

so I should keep mum. "Mum"'s the British word isn't it? Americans would just keep their mouths shut.

But wasn't Brexit the UK equivalent of Trump? I mean, it wasn't a fair flip of the coin, was it?

Matey, in my's view, there's just no copper bottom to it.

Everyone was doing political gymnastics in the belief we would have a hung parliament ... except we ended up Tory. Probably a whole lot of shy Tories out there. Reality is a new Tory government but not a huge stonking majority like in the Thatcher years.
