ST.PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) President Vladimir Putin insisted Thursday that the Russian state has never engaged in hacking and scoffed at allegations that hackers could influence the outcome of elections in the United States or Europe. But the Russian leader admitted the possibility that some individual patriotic hackers could have mounted some attacks amid the current cold spell in Russias relations with the West.
Speaking at a meeting with senior editors of leading international news agencies, Putin also alleged that some evidence pointing at Russian hackers participation in attacks he didnt specify which could have been falsified in an attempt to smear Russia.
I can imagine that some do it deliberately, staging a chain of attacks in such a way as to cast Russia as the origin of such an attack, Putin said. Modern technologies allow that to be done quite easily.
U.S. intelligence agencies have accused Russia of hacking into Democratic Party emails, helping President Donald Trumps election victory, and the Congressional and FBI investigations into the Trump campaigns ties with Russia have shattered Moscows hopes for a detente with Washington.

UPDATE:
Vladimir Putin Hints at Russian Role in Hacking of U.S. Election
By ANDREW HIGGINSJUNE 1, 2017
MOSCOW Shifting away from his previous blanket denials of Russian involvement in cyberattacks last year to help the presidential campaign of Donald J. Trump, President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia denied any state role on Thursday but said that patriotically minded private Russian hackers could have been involved.
Mr. Putins comments, made during a meeting with Russian and foreign news agencies in St. Petersburg, were a departure from the Kremlins previous position: that Russia had played no role whatsoever in the hacking of the Democratic National Committee and that, after Mr. Trumps victory, the country had become the victim of anti-Russia hysteria among crestfallen Democrats.
Raising the possibility of attacks by what he portrayed as free-spirited Russian patriots, Mr. Putin said that hackers are like artists who choose their targets depending how they feel when they wake up in the morning.
If they are patriotically minded, they start making their contributions which are right, from their point of view to the fight against those who say bad things about Russia, he added.

No doubt they made sure the hackers were third party "independents" getting paid, direction, resources, etc. via a shell company that's owned by another shell company that no one seems to know who owns it.

(809 posts)I watched the debate and anyone who thought Trump won was lying or delusional. I switched back and forth betweeen post debate polls and at first Clinton was winning by a large margin and then suddenly Trump was leading in the polls. WTF! And then someone posted a graphic on internet traffic to the polls and it showed massive traffic from St Petersburg. I wish I had taken a screenshot. State sponsored? That is up to intelligence to find out. IMHO, Trump owes the Russian oligarchs and banks and is very beholden to them. Putin is Trump as genius is to moron. Putin just wants the trillions in oil in the Artic. I still can't figure if Trump is just an egotistical idiot or running the long con.
