Children strapped with explosives kill nine in north Cameroon

Source: Reuters

Two children carrying explosives blew themselves up on Friday near a camp in northern Cameroon housing civilians displaced by Nigeria's Boko Haram militants, killing nine people and wounding 30, officials said.

They entered the town of Kolofata, around 10 km (6 miles) from the border with Nigeria, before dawn, posing as refugees looking for food before the start of the daytime fast for Ramadan.

"Two suicide bomber adolescents aged between 10 and 15 years infiltrated the town of Kolofata," Communications Minister Issa Tchiroma Bakary told state radio, adding that both had detonated their explosives.

Boko Haram increasingly using drugged children as suicide bombers, warns Unicef

Militant Islamist group Boko Haram is increasingly forcing children to carry out suicide bombing attacks, often drugging them before their missions, Unicef has warned.

That article is nauseating.

In the first three months of the year, 27 children have been used in suicide attacks, compared to nine cases in the same period in the previous year, and 30 children being used for bombings in all of 2016, Unicef said.

Since 2014, 117 attacks have been carried out by children in the Lake Chad basin, with nearly 80 per cent of the bombs strapped to girls.

Where the fuck is the UN? Europe? Other Muslim countries (since they're doing this in the name of religion)?

Many times we think they're engaging in serious critical thinking, but invariably that's just when they're saying things that we told them--the opposition view, why it's wrong, why we're right.

They lack the background knowledge and a sense of what's been done. No facts, no history, no critiquing possible. It's hard to place the arguments and facts in context.

These kids usually self-kaboom for two reasons. The first is they believe, because they've been taught to believe and no other option has seriously presented itself. Perhaps another option came along, but family and friends reinforced one option and made the psycho-social cost of rejecting the common view prohibitive for insecure early teens. The second is that they're just terrified, and have been told that if they don't function as bipedal explosive deployment systems their parents or siblings will die or suffer horribly.

There should be an international conference held in a Muslim country with representatives from every 'moderate' Muslim country. Their most respected Iman. From that there should be a declaration, including a Fatwa against ISIS, Boko Haram, and every other terrorist group that uses their religion as a shield to carry out crimes against humanity. The Koran specifically forbids killing of innocents. They could denounce the radical interpretation of 'innocents' as being anyone that does not subscribe to these extremists interpretation of what it means to be a proper Muslim.

My gawd its like Trumpublicans and their base. Like the GOP reps afraid to call out Trump's extremism for fear of offending their radical base.

No more. The world must demand such a conference, if they are reluctant. Back it up with sanction threats.

Also a message to Western leaders and citizens and quell the opinions and actions of more radical leaders that have a habit of melding all Muslims into one evil pot. coughTrumpcough.

It would slow down many young people going to join up with ISIS. If your countries leading Iman says they are fake Muslims and apostates and there is a Fatwa against them for pissing on Islam, and that it is they who should be killed for dragging Mohamad's name through the mud. It may not prevent all sign-ups, but would definatley make a lot of religious minded young people think twice. It wouldn't prevent the young hoodlums looking for a thrill kill and rapefest though.

But to be formally stripped of their Islamic religion credentials by all prominent Islamic leaders around the globe, reducing them to simple terrorists, even if they themselves reject it, would have an effect I think. But it has to be a single loud rebuke from most every Muslim nation in order to have an effect.

I don't know, but from what I've seen the only time a prominent Muslim leader says anything against ISIS is only when deliberately asked by a reporter. And even then it is a mild quiet admonishment.
