McConnell Takes Step To Fast-Track O'Care Repeal In The Senate

Source: Talking Points Memo

By TIERNEY SNEED Published JUNE 7, 2017 11:42 AM

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) took a procedural step Wednesday that will allow the GOP to fast-track its Obamacare repeal efforts in the Senate and side-step the typical committee process.

McConnell began the process under what is known as Rule 14, according to the Senate minority whip’s office, to allow a repeal bill to be put directly on the Senate calendar so that it is available for a floor vote when Republicans are ready to vote on it. The move comes as GOP senators continue their closed-door meetings to hash out a deal that would secure the 50 votes they’ll need to pass legislation dismantling the Affordable Care Act, which they they are pushing through a process known as reconciliation that avoids a Democratic filibuster.

On Tuesday, the Senate Budget Committee Chairman Mike Enzi (R-WY) announced that the Senate parliamentarian cleared the House GOP’s repeal bill, the American Health Care Act, for Senate consideration under reconciliation. Democrats are still likely to challenge provisions of the bill, depending on what the Senate version of the legislation looks like, on the grounds that they violate the rules of reconciliation, which is limited to budgetary measures that affect the deficit.

The House bill imposes massive cuts to Medicaid, reworks the Obamacare’s tax credits, makes some of its insurer mandates optional for states, and eliminates many of the ACA taxes, mainly on the industry and high-earners. The CBO anticipated that 23 million fewer people would have health care coverage compared to current law.

Republicans have made the senate dysfunctional to the point of excluding democrats from even being involved in legislating. Republicans do not care about the health care of Americans as evidenced by their exclusive policies. Nature will not be kind.

By all means let's just let this ruskie interfering into our elections thing go (And they're STILL meddling per Clint Watts), because as the party in the minority in both Houses of Congress, we sure can do a LOT to stop them procedurally

By the way, the ruskies interfering into our elections is NO fantasy

We are concentrating on watching and tweeting and being passive... fantasy not participation. We need to be more. pro-active and get back into the streets. That is what I meant.

I did not mean that the Russian hacking into our election system was a big nothing burger. Check out my other posts before you start burning me down.

Okay, but when you use words like fantasy and put it in front of the other word russia ....

The word fantasy:

fan·ta·sy
ˈ
fan(t)əsē/Submit
noun

1.the faculty or activity of imagining things, especially things that are impossible or improbable.
"his research had moved into the realm of fantasy"
synonyms: imagination, fancy, invention, make-believe;

2. a musical composition, free in form, typically involving variation on an existing work or the imaginative representation of a situation or story; a fantasia.

verb literary
1.imagine the occurrence of; fantasize about.

But, when you say what you said to me in your response, it makes perfectly CLEAR what you mean.

We are well and truly fucked here people....

The election in 2016 was a cataclysm that is going to reverberate for DECADES!!!
yeah, I know...Hillary was a less than perfect candidate and she had E-MAILS!!! and Bernie was cheated and they did this and she did that and he did the other and its all a mountain of bullshit that has buried our fates.

What are the central issues that should concern ALL PEOPLE, regardless of ideology? Well, first and foremost is SURVIVAL!!!

Did the election of 2016 make your personal survival more or less likely over the next 50 years? If you're old enough that such a timeline is inapplicable, did it make it likely that your children, grand-children or family or friends will have a greater or lesser chance of survival?

If they breathe clean air, no, they are not better off...
If they drink clean water, no, they are not better off...
If they maintain homeostasis, no, they are not better off...
If they have any pre-existing conditions, up to and including breathing in that free radical oxygen, no, they are not better off...
If they have the misfortune of being laid low by a diagnosis or illness that was unforeseen and unknowable, no, they are not better off...
If they are a woman, no, they are not better off...

In fact, unless they are a current millionaire or better yet billionaire or the offspring of said scumbags, no one is better off now.

Even if we are free of Trump, his damage is done, his successor is worse and this nation is doomed.

not fooled

who thinks the senate pukes--led by the evil mcturdle--will let this opportunity pass by to shove their sh*tty agenda down the throat of the American people--is deluding themselves. ACA repeal coupled with tax cuts for the wealthy + selling off public assets.

The enormous behind-the-scenes pressure from the donor class, i.e. kochs and their ilk, will ensure that something will be worked out behind closed doors in the senate, then rammed through.

They probably think they can do this despite its unpopularity and still have 2018 and 2020 in the bag, thanks to election stealing.

I sure hope I'm wrong.

That's why Eddie Munster and McTurtle are so against the Russian investigation. They know Russia stealing the elections for them a 2nd time is their only hope and they are willing to give up everything good about America to continue Putin's help and the oligarch give-aways.

Your analysis is DEAD on the mark about "them" maintaining their power through elections at ALL costs, because Dems are impassioned and irate in large #'s come 2018/2020 because we're literally fighting for our lives because the GOP/tRumputin/a hostile foreign entity is doing unimaginable damage to our country/way of life--the likes that we've never seen. So, what better way to keep the "russianization" of the USA going than to KEEP voter-suppressing (GOP & tRumputin) and getting the ruskie's to help them.

Needless to say, we as a country are in a WORLD of trouble with treasonous tRump installed as president, with russia driving our policy because putin has kompromat on him & more than likely on the GOP also, and because both are are power hungry and don't care that our country is being held hostage by an unholy foreign entity, so long as they can get what they want IE: To diminish the USA (putin) by turning it into a russian-style Kleptocracy (GOP/tRump/putin).

Will show as soon as people realize they can't see a doctor anymore thanks to republican greed. There will be no dodging their anger. We need to keep reminding them who's to blame for them having no meaningful healthcare.

This will probably effect lower income Trump voters most. An unkind person would say - "Serves them right."
