UPDATED: House Intelligence Committee leaders ask White House for any Comey tapes

Source: Politico

By KYLE CHENEY 06/09/2017 04:20 PM EDT

Leaders of the House Intelligence Committee are asking the White House to produce any tapes that might exist of President Donald Trump's conversations with ousted FBI director James Comey.

Rep. Mike Conaway (R-Texas) and Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), the lawmakers leading the investigation, asked White House counsel Don McGahn on Friday to confirm whether any tapes exist, and if so, to produce them for the committee by June 23.

Their request comes less than two hours after President Donald Trump, in a Rose Garden news conference, refused to answer questions about whether such tapes exist.

House Intel Committee demands Trump hand over any copies of the Comey tapes ‘to the extent they exist’

-snip-

The committee also wrote to Comey requesting “any notes or memoranda in his possession memorializing” his conversations with the president.

The request comes one day after Comey testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee, confirming, under oath, that Trump demanded his loyalty and asked him to quash the FBI’s investigation into former National Security Adviser Mike Flynn.

The Senate Intelligence Committee likewise wrote to Comey’s “good friend,” Columbia professor Daniel Richman, requesting any copies of the former FBI director’s memos he may possess. Comey on Thursday testified he asked Richman to share details of his conversations with the president to the press.

At a press conference Friday, Trump said he was “100 percent” willing to testify that he never demanded loyalty from Comey, effectively saying the former FBI director lied under oath.

about everything. He lies when he doesn't have to. He lies for sport. Does no one else in the administration know if there is a fucking tape? Come on! Even if there was one, you know it's gone now.

I think there's a psychological term for it - oh yeah - narcissism. He's the poster boy for that mental illness.

4. Republican Pres Trump said about tapes: "I'll tell you about it over a very short period of time"

Reporter: "And you seem to be hinting that there are recordings of those conversations."

Republican President Trump: "I'm not hinting anything. I'll tell you about it over a very short period of time....Oh, you're going to be very disappointed when you hear the answer. Don't worry."

"I'll tell you about it over a very short period of time"? Does that mean the answer is short? Does it mean he will continue to give us hints but not for very long? Gah! Why does anyone from the press even talk to this mental patient? What if he gave a presser and nobody came?

The clown president and his staff of circus animals can't find their collective asses with both hands let alone secretly record anybody in the WH. Now Putin on the other hand...I'm guessing he's had the WH wired since inauguration. If there are tapes, they belong to Russia. Didn't Putin say he had tapes of the the Kislyak/FF45 meeting at the WH when the US press was invited? The WH is definitely wired.

12. Trump did not say he never demanded loyalty

"At a press conference Friday, Trump said he was “100 percent” willing to testify that he never demanded loyalty from Comey, effectively saying the former FBI director lied under oath."

That is an incorrect paraphrase - Trump said he never asked Comey to "pledge allegiance." He used that phrase TWICE - the second time he said "pledge allegiance under oath."

He calls on the reporter "John"at about 7:50 into the press conference:
