Obama seen by Americans as more likable than Romney, new USA Today-Gallup poll shows

Source: Washington Post

If you believe the polls, it would appear there is one big factor standing in the way of Mitt Romney being elected president: Americans don't like him as well as they do Barack Obama.

That was confirmed again in a new USA Today-Gallup survey, in which respondents gave Romney higher marks on every issue that voters say they care most about this year: the economy, jobs, taxes, the deficit. But President Barack Obama crushed Romney -- 60 percent to 30 percent -- on the question of which of the two was more likable.

In April, a Washington Post-ABC News poll found an even larger gap, with 64 percent of those surveyed describing Obama as the friendlier, more likable candidate, and only 26 percent saying that about Romney.

"We're not going to win a personality contest. It's not an election for class president. It's who can best solve the problems of the country," said Romney's own pollster, Neil Newhouse. "Likability isn't fixing the economy or helping the middle class make ends meet."

1. Amazing most people think Romney would be better on the economy and jobs.

I guess the "ignorant masses" are truly ignorant.

On the plus side I suspect the "likability" factor will probably trump all those other things as long as the economy doesnt tank between now and Nov.

the camera stayed on the stage for a few minutes after it ended and the candidates were just sort of standing around chatting with each other. Except for Mittens, who was the only one just standing by himself, not talking to anyone. I thought that said a lot about him. I didn't have the stomach to watch any of the 2012 debates, so maybe things were different this time around, but I'm guessing not.

12. More important than competency and likeability is trustworthiness

A majority of respondents may feel Romney is better equipped to handle economic issues but that's not the same as feeling he will use those skills to the country's benefit. I think the likeability issue is not as important as the trustworthy issue, on which the president has a 47-39 lead. It doesn't matter how capable a candidate is, voters need to be able to trust them.

or sliced bread, or a better life for everyone.

Who would you trust?

The feeling that Mr Obama gives to me is so different from anything I have seen from Mitman.

I really think that most Americans feel that feel that the the smile is genuine.

The rest can't deal with their racism.
