Speaking to US filmmaker Oliver Stone as part of a tell-all documentary on the Russian president, Mr Putin revealed his true feelings about the US, claiming it got a false sense that it is able to do everything without any consequences, in particular after the Soviet Unions collapse.
He said: In such a situation, a man or a country begins to make mistakes
The state begins to function ineffectively. One mistake follows another.
That is the trap in which, as I believe, the United States got caught into.
He continued: "I believe that if you think you are the only world power, trying to impose on the whole nation the idea of their exclusiveness, this creates an imperialistic mentality in society, which in turn requires an adequate foreign policy expected by society. And the country's leaders are forced to follow this logic. And in practice this might go contrary to the interest of the Americans... It demonstrates it's impossible to control everything."

(7,432 posts)and now and forever indebted to Russian oligarchs. Putin plays Trumpy for the useful idiot he is. He tells Trumpy what to do, and Trumpy does it, expecting praise. Putin only gives praise tactically. Trumpy is suckered.

(1,521 posts)Trump has done everything that Putin has wanted. He has tacitly approved of the annexation of Crimea and doesn't seem all that opposed to Russian intervention in Ukraine. He has, even when prompted, been unwilling to criticize Putin in any way. In fact, he has repeatedly defended Putin.
He has sown division within the NATO alliance by making a speech that explicitly failed to express the United States reaffirmation of Article V of the NATO alliance.
He and his proxies have also floated the idea of terminating the current Russian sanctions even though Russia has not done anything that would merit the cancellation of those sanctions.
Please don't lose sight of the how Trump and his minions have supported Putin and Russia.
It has been explicit and ongoing.
Could Putin and Trump fall out of love? Please follow the money. That is the only thing Trump cares about.

(9,808 posts)Putin's goal is accomplished -- the great enemy is so embroiled in chaos of its own making that it will be ineffective at best and marginalized for at least a few years. Russia didn't care how the chaos came to be, as long as there was plenty of it. Now that the goal is accomplished, Putin no longer needs to even make the appearance of making nice.
The GOoP bought McCain's underestimation of Russia. They didn't think a gas station posed a real threat, but it might be a useful tool. While Putin knew better.

He's playing this country like a damn fiddle ... smarter than anyone except the best the Dems have to offer ... such as Obama, Franken, Schumer, etc. NOBODY on the GOP side of things is even close, esp. not Drumpf ...

(964 posts)Putin never wanted a continuation of Obama era tactics, he got lucky when he realized how manipulative Drump was with a large ego and larger debts. He saw opportunities to "dethrone" the US from the world's stage and he prompted, and took it. I believe he was waiting for the exit of Obama to push his plans which couldn't happen had Hilary won. There is admiration from tuRdump for Putin, but it was never anything more than a pawn for Putin.

Just ignore the fact that Vlad committed an act of war against us and we're not doing one damn thing about it. All that thanks to two nuts, Agent Orange and Stone, who make useful tools.
