Source: Raw Story
A railway station in Brussels was evacuated Tuesday after police neutralized a suspect wearing an explosive belt.
Belgian police confirmed there was a small explosion in the Brussels Central Station, but said there did not appear to be much damage done. The cause of the explosion is unknown.
ABC reported that one suspect was shot by Belgian soldiers. No other casualties have been reported.
Local media reported that witnesses saw a man lying on the ground with wires coming out of his clothing.

(54,437 posts)This is starting to get a little unnerving.
Recently there have always been armed soldiers at the train stations. Not without justification, it would seem.
Where DO they find these nuts? No incentive to find a partner, have a life or grow old, just go boom and life ends at 26? What kind of assholes brainwash young guys to think that this is a good idea? Note that it's never 65 year old guys that blow themselves up. They just sit around, drink mint tea, and tell 20 somethings what a great idea it is.

(54,437 posts)Europeans read stories about mass shootings and police murders in the USA and tremble with fear at the thought of setting foot on American soil, too.
From Frankfurt, there are SO many cool places within a hour's flight or a few hours by train. Cheap flights go to Zürich, Geneva, Prague, Vienna, Hamburg, Berlin, Paris, Munich, the list goes on. Now with the new fast route to Köln (Cologne), the ICE trans can get there in about 65 minutes (my town of Düsseldorf in 85 minutes)--or you can take the old slow route up the Rhein and see Roman-era vineyards and medieval castles on practically every hilltop between Mainz and Kobkenz. The Taunus hills and the Sauerland near Frankfurt are nice, too.
We leave for the States next week, or I'd offer to show you around.

Eta: I won't stay in my apartment. I study Mexican history and am never afraid to be there, so...

A man suspected of setting off a bomb at Brussels Central Station on Tuesday has been identified as a 36-year-old Moroccan from a city district that has spawned a number of jihadist attackers.
The suspect came from Molenbeek and was carrying a bomb armed with nails and gas canisters, officials said.
He was shot and later died after the explosion, which is being treated as a terrorist attack.
He was known to police but had not been linked to terrorism, reports said.
Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel told reporters that a "terrorist attack had been averted" at the station.
