A 22-year-old boy died Thursday in the Venezuelan capital after several gunshots struck him when National Guard troops clashed with opposition protesters, two doctors told Reuters.

A handful of opponents blocked a Caracas freeway and attempted to enter an airbase by breaking its grates and attacking it with stones, as military personnel opened fire on some demonstrators with unidentified weapons, according to television images.

David Jose Vallenilla, who was demonstrating at the scene, was shot three times in the chest, doctors at a nearby clinic told Reuters.

Here's a video that quite clearly shows the whole thing. The guards shot David at point-blank range: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v3JC2IlYV1XI

Maduro and the rest of the Chavista leadership have the blood of nearly a hundred killed since the protests began back in April, and all they care about is entrenching themselves deeper in power with the ILLEGAL constitutional assembly they're pushing for in July.

Just gonna say it, if anyone in this forum dare still support Maduro and his company, you are openly supporting an authoritarian regime that no longer believes in democracy and which also murders protesters.

The thing is, the Maduro gov. is so desperate to find loyal drones, they're just letting any thug from the street become a Natl Guard or "militia of the people". They know they're between a rock and a hard place, and they option they have left to stay in power is to rule with an iron fist. But, take away the criminals in military uniform and they're done for. Now they want to impose a consitutional assembly this July to try to constitutionalize whatever bullshit they want in order to "legally" remain in power for good (won't be surprised if part of it is to abolish the parliament and make the president have total control)

I've heard people insist 14-year-olds are somehow "men," but when a 19-year-old gets into trouble he's a "teen." Depends on empathy: if you want to protect the person or make him less responsible in some way, he's given a "younger" description. If you want to nail the guy and attribute responsibility, he's older in the description.

In this case, he's a "joven." The best "dictionary" translation is "youth." On the other hand, it screws up the word's usus: In Spanish, it's a fairly common word but in English "youth" is less common. I think joven can go a bit younger than "young man" can stretch for most English-speakers in common use.

I usually go with "young man" when in doubt, but often the best translation is "boy." Except when the "boy" is 22.

Was still an unarmed protester (he had rocks at the most) shot at point-blank range by thugs in uniform.

They've been awfully quiet lately about the wonders of the Chavista revolution. Just saying.
