Maduro and the rest of the Chavista leadership have the blood of nearly a hundred killed since the protests began back in April, and all they care about is entrenching themselves deeper in power with the ILLEGAL constitutional assembly they're pushing for in July.
Just gonna say it, if anyone in this forum dare still support Maduro and his company, you are openly supporting an authoritarian regime that no longer believes in democracy and which also murders protesters.

(2,035 posts)The thing is, the Maduro gov. is so desperate to find loyal drones, they're just letting any thug from the street become a Natl Guard or "militia of the people". They know they're between a rock and a hard place, and they option they have left to stay in power is to rule with an iron fist. But, take away the criminals in military uniform and they're done for. Now they want to impose a consitutional assembly this July to try to constitutionalize whatever bullshit they want in order to "legally" remain in power for good (won't be surprised if part of it is to abolish the parliament and make the president have total control)

(35,300 posts)I've heard people insist 14-year-olds are somehow "men," but when a 19-year-old gets into trouble he's a "teen." Depends on empathy: if you want to protect the person or make him less responsible in some way, he's given a "younger" description. If you want to nail the guy and attribute responsibility, he's older in the description.
In this case, he's a "joven." The best "dictionary" translation is "youth." On the other hand, it screws up the word's usus: In Spanish, it's a fairly common word but in English "youth" is less common. I think joven can go a bit younger than "young man" can stretch for most English-speakers in common use.
I usually go with "young man" when in doubt, but often the best translation is "boy." Except when the "boy" is 22.
