Washington (CNN)Justice Anthony Kennedy, the man who so often determines the outcome of the most controversial Supreme Court cases, is himself the center of brewing speculation.
Will he stay or will he go? The rumors have swirled for months and the 80-year-old justice has done nothing either personally or though intermediaries to set the record straight on whether he will step down.
Helping drive the speculation, dozens of Kennedy's former clerks are traveling to Washington to participate in a private clerk reunion that occurs regularly -- and many of them wonder if it will be their last chance to meet with him while he is still on the bench.
Sources close to Kennedy say that he is seriously considering retirement, but they are unclear if it could occur as early as this term.

(43,476 posts)should hold on for the next president to nominate a centrist. He won't get that now.

(26,783 posts)He's the "center" of the court on most issues right now, but with the exception of a few issues, he's still pretty conservative.
Which means there's no way that he wants to be replaced by a Democrat.
If he did, he would have retired a year ago.

(4,940 posts)I think that he respects the role of the Court and the institutions of democracy. Justice Kennedy, though a conservative, is a reasonable person and sees trump for what he is. I don't think he would want to see whats left of our democracy destroyed.
I could be wrong, of course, but that's what I think.

(37,648 posts)evidence he's about to be impeached. He is being investigated, is all, at this stage.
But if Trump is impeached, Pence will take his place.
