White House: Trump Holds Open Repeal-Only 'Option' For Senate Health Care Bill

Source: Associated Press

By HOPE YEN Published JULY 3, 2017 9:24 AM

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is pressuring wavering senators to back a Republican bill to repeal and replace former President Barack Obama’s health care law but is holding open a repeal-only option if Republicans can’t reach agreement over the July 4 recess, Trump’s top legislative aide says.

Marc Short, the White House’s legislative director, said Trump was making weekend calls and believed senators were “getting close” on passing a bill. But Short maintained that Trump continues to believe that repeal-only legislation should also be considered. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., has dismissed the suggestion.

McConnell says he intends to proceed with GOP legislation being negotiated during the week-long recess. He has previously said if Republicans don’t reach agreement, he will have to turn to Democrats, who want to fix Obama’s health care law without repealing it.

“Our preference is to pass the bill the Senate has right now,” Short said. But he added: “If the replacement part is too difficult for Republicans to get together, then let’s go back and take care of the first step of repeal.”

Conway: We’ll Pass Obamacare Repeal ‘This Summer,’ But ‘Replace’ Can Wait (VIDEO)

By MATT SHUHAM Published JULY 3, 2017 10:33 AM

White House aide Kellyanne Conway said Monday that Republicans could repeal Obamacare without also replacing it, which would violate Trump’s prior pledge to do both at once.

“Very hopeful, very confident that the President can have the bill on his desk this summer,” Conway told “Fox & Friends.”

“In terms of the procedure,” she added later, “it could either be repealed and replaced at same time, or you could do what happened in the 2015 Senate bill, where every Republican senator who was there except for one voted, and they voted to immediately do away with the penalties and taxes under Obamacare, they dealt with Medicaid as well.”

“The only thing that’s changed since their vote in 2015 to repeal Obamacare and now is that you have a Republican president willing to sign that into law,” Conway said. “And you have the failures of Obamacare that much more crisp and obvious in front of you.”

Looks like a strategy to get members to vote for the bill, whatever it is. Of course, he'd be fine with a total repeal and watch people suffer and die. What POWER he has! He's exhilarated! He's the CEO of the world! He's the President and no one else is!

You can substitute "Later" with NEVER.

REMEMBER the Super Committee budget sequester that was supposed to be so onerous it would force everyone back to the table for a better more permanent solution? Yeah, we're still waiting for that one...

on Day 1". I actually know people who voted for him based on that promise. I hope they're paying attention. Although since they have Faux Noise on in the background in their house most of the day . . .

just a repeal?

I don't buy it, this is just typical bullshit coming from this deplorable administration.

This only factors in the rand paul and ted cruz assholes, who just want to repeal the ACA, it does not factor in those who have made it clear they need to have something in place to replace it, or they won't go for it.

Trumpsters don't care about Russia, pathological lying, immoral criminal behavior.

But I suspect they still care about dying prematurely.

I think Trump's isolated sociopathic call for repeal and the threat of death it poses to them may register as not all that terrific and wonderful.

Of course, if democrats criticized it, his supporters will think its a devious attempt to get another black guy in office, or shrill feminist, or Jewish hippie. They're not falling for that.

So Dems should openly support repeal BUT only in solid red states and subject to each electoral district's approval. Some of those districts are democrat or swing.

Then place ads in particularly red rural counties with Obama as spokespersons calling for the repeal of Obamacare "because you don't need it."

"As democrats, we enthusiastically support President Trump in his call to repeal Obamacare in YOUR county because you don't need it, and ask for your vote in replacing it with a pure for-profit health care system without no government protections or assistance."

He knows that repeal with no replacement is a total killer, and that's what he likes about it. He wants to punish the people because their reps have blathered on and on about repeal and replace when it was all a total charade. The people aren't responsible for him and their reps trying to destroy healthcare by taking all the money from the poor and giving it to the rich, yet it's them he wants to make suffer. His homeys never had a good plan for replacement and still don't So the excuse is repeal now, replace later, how stupid! 36 million people would lose coverage the first year, way more than even under their most current horrible plan. To cause utter destruction, he's also teasing us with not paying the subsidies so even if the repeal isn't until 2020, the marketplace will flame out the minute he takes this people killing action.
