Former NASA scientist releases new paper supporting youth climate case against Trump

Former NASA scientist and current adjunct professor at Columbia Universitys Earth Institute James Hansen is out with a new paper, published Tuesday in Earth Systems Dynamics, which outlines the science behind man-made climate change as well as the exceptional effort required to keep warming below 1.5°C (2.7°F).
Hansen argues that future generations will need to remove carbon dioxide from the air and that reducing emissions is not enough to limit global warming. The paper is meant to provide scientific support for a lawsuit currently working its way through the courts, which pits a group of youth plaintiffs against the federal government. The case, Juliana v. United States, is scheduled to go to trial in early February.
The courts must step in to help us, said Sophie Kivlehan, one of the youth plaintiffs and Hansens granddaughter. Kivlehan said human-caused climate change violates the rights of young people and future generations to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness and property, without due process of law.
Initially filed in August 2015 against the Obama administration, the lawsuit which now names President Donald Trump as the primary defendant alleges that the federal government, through its fossil fuel-friendly policies and decisions, has failed to preserve the youths constitutional right to a livable climate.

Since the so called grown-ups in the room are doing nothing to help the planet, this generation, has taken it by the proverbial horns and said, why are you doing this to us

(3,847 posts)ones that have allowed and pushed this agenda of scorched earth policy. Their parents gave us a gift of unbelievable proportions: a strong military, the strongest manufacturing base in the world and an agriculture like no other. We were able to sell enormous amounts of food to every country in the world with enough to spare to give away to the poorest.
Our medial professionals were the best, our engineers, universities, so on so forth....the "baby boomers" gave it away for more money than they know what to do with. Their own children and grandchildren are now on the verge of complete economic collapse because they needed another fucking car.
They have allowed and made same sure our country went to shit and just a few decades after 150 years of growth. Amazing.

(37,748 posts)Another simplistic allegation lacking any objective support or evidence, which dramatically fails to mention the actual catalyst of the problem-- the industrial revolution, its effects, and the solutions and priorities created and lead by the very age group you indict.
Amazing you were failed to place blame on them for your spelling errors and poor grammar.... yet.
I get it... many youths give a priority to placing blame and not much else (six of one, and half a dozen of the other, you see)
