Sean Spicer Resigns as White House Press Secretary

Source: New York Times

By GLENN THRUSH JULY 21, 2017

WASHINGTON Sean Spicer, the White House press secretary, resigned on Friday morning, telling President Trump he vehemently disagreed with the appointment of the New York financier Anthony Scaramucci as communications director.

Mr. Trump offered Mr. Scaramucci the job at 10 a.m. The president requested that Mr. Spicer stay on, but Mr. Spicer told Mr. Trump that he believed the appointment was a major mistake, according to person with direct knowledge of the exchange.

From Wikipedia;
Scaramuccia (literally "little skirmisher&quot , also known as Scaramouche or Scaramouch, is a stock clown character of the Italian commedia dell'arte. The role combined characteristics of the zanni (servant) and the Capitano (masked henchman). Usually attired in black Spanish dress and burlesquing a don, he was often beaten by Harlequin for his boasting and cowardice.

He's probably right. I've seen this before in the private sector. They hire someone w/great references and who they like, but who has little to no experience in the job he's being hired for...so the ones under him will have to do the job and train him, while the new guy gets all the credit. If it doesn't go well, the staff will be blamed.

He was right to leave. He's famous, now. Hopefully there will be some good job offers coming his way.

As for kiss and tell, he may not be able to say anything right now, but there's a book in his future.

Although Spicer got tangled in so many ridiculous lies, and was so compromised, I didn't despise him like I do the others. Felt sorry for him, and mostly saw him as a very weak guy who wasn't internally driven to be so morally bereft but allowed others (okay, 45) to push him there.

The ballad of Sean Spicer: He snagged the Washington dream job, but at a price.
By Ben Terris July 21 at 4:41 PM

So what does happen when you tie your career to Donald Trump?

In the case of Sean Spicer it meant getting everything he ever wanted: a dream job at the press secretary’s podium, name recognition that dwarfed that of many of the politicians he once worked for, and perhaps most importantly, a slice of the Beltway’s most coveted real estate — his own place in the Know.

But wishes come true at a price in the Trump administration. For Spicer, that meant a loss of credibility from inflating inauguration crowd sizes, picking petty fights with the press, and a rabid “Saturday Night Live” parody portrayal that will be remembered long after this administration comes to an end.

Spicer seemed to be able to live with all these humiliations, but losing his spot in the inner sanctum was too much to bear. Spicer resigned Friday after learning that hedge-fund veteran Anthony Scaramucci would be hired as communications director, a move the press secretary had argued against.
