The Interiors Departments Office of the Inspector General has launched a preliminary investigation into Secretary Ryan Zinke after he reportedly threatened Alaska senators last week in an attempt to get them to support an Obamacare repeal push.
Reps. Frank Pallone (D-NJ) and Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ) sent a letter to the Inspector General on July 27, asking the office to look into Zinkes calls to Sens. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Dan Sullivan (R-AK).
The OIG is undertaking a preliminary investigation into this matter. We will advise you about what further action the results of this inquiry lead the OIG to take, Deputy Inspector General Mary Kendall said Thursday in a written response to Pallone and Grijalva.
Sullivan told the Alaska Dispatch News that Zinke called ahead of the Senates Obamacare repeal vote last week and threatened to sanction Alaska on energy policy if both senators didnt vote in favor of repeal.

(12,650 posts)Zinke was probably a typical College Jock type that was talented enough to pass the SEAL physical and SERE, smart enough to pass the mental tests and was able to follow orders efficiently enough - and he could stay in shape enough to look good in uniform and impress the officers.
That he intentionally f'ed up his travel claims while gaming the system and was still "honorably discharged" shows he's just a Jock that done good enough, nothing uniquely "honorable" or "patriotic".
Heck, we have a 20+ year in service SEAL who is probably going to retire soon here in San Diego, because he's currently creating "a media scandal" for the Navy because he and his wife had made and starred in professional "Adult Films" for years - and every one of his commands knew about it and were okay with it once he and his wife started making these films.
See, military people are allowed to work with Hollywood - or television shows - all the time as extras; a few even have speaking parts...there's regulations for doing so, and so long as one follows the regulations and pays their taxes correctly for the work, it's not considered a big deal.
As far as everyone was concerned, he was following the regulations. He informed his command he was working in film with his wife as a producer on his own time so it wouldn't conflict with his Navy Duties. He wasn't an officer, so he never really broke the law under the UCMJ in spirit; never committed Adultery with other women (or men), and any sodomy was with his willing wife, so that wasn't a big deal, though it might have been punishable. He never indicated on film he was actually in the Military and he was never in official uniform for any of those movies.
He's decorated veteran who was always exemplary as he did his Navy job. So, what was the big deal?
At least when this San Diego SEAL is screwing someone in public, it's not by being a thug bully and creating environmental damage for profit...
