Trumps Threat to North Korea Was Improvised

Source: NY Times

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — President Trump delivered his “fire and fury” threat to North Korea on Tuesday with arms folded, jaw set and eyes flitting on what appeared to be a single page of talking points set before him on the conference table at his New Jersey golf resort.

The piece of paper, as it turned out, was a fact sheet on the opioid crisis he had come to talk about, and his ominous warning to Pyongyang was entirely improvised, according to several people with direct knowledge of what unfolded. In discussions with advisers beforehand, he had not run the specific language by them.

The inflammatory words quickly escalated the confrontation with North Korea to a new, alarming level and were followed shortly by a new threat from North Korea to obliterate an American air base on Guam. In the hours since, the president’s advisers have sought to calm the situation, with Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson assuring Americans that they “should sleep at night” without worrying about an imminent war.

But the president’s ad-libbed threat reflected an evolving and still unsettled approach to one of the most dangerous hot spots in the world as Mr. Trump and his team debate diplomatic, economic and military options.

The leadership of any kind of advanced country is not supposed to work like this.

The President went off into the wilderness because someone posed a hard question earlier than Trump's handlers expected?

now unleashes nuclear tipped warheads. If he were a regular cannon we could spike the damned thing and be done with it.

The orange shit-cannon has absolutely no impulse control, and can't control his diarrhea mouth. Every insipid thought that rattles around in his empty head, makes it's way out of his blubbery mouth, and falls on the ears of a nation that despises him more with each passing day.

We now have a NEW "most dangerous (and stupid) man on Earth", and he happens to be OUR president.

But this, this was really real to his highest order of wish fulfillment. Forever in his prime.
His Fans.

In the end, one is pushed over the edge and the other steps down. And it was all Trump's idea.

Two of the people I despise most in this world, together, making the world more ignorant than anyone ever thought possible.

Actually, both share similar backgrounds. Both inherited great wealth, but only one went on to become a successful (though unspeakably noxious) businessman. The other is our president.

I almost want to click on it to see what stunningly ignorant things they say, but my sense of moral decency prohibits me.

Click on it than turn off the volume. Imagine yer watching a silent movie such as the little tramp. Watch facial expression and body language. Ti's true Trump knows exactly what he looks like ,certainly he spent enough time in front of mirrors prepping himself and admiring himself and of course complimenting himself. It was all very real to him and all for one the money and two for the show.

Pushing his adversary over the edge in this case N. Korea is in effect setting the stage for a nuclear accident or incident. The stage is the world stage and I can see Trump stepping down by his own volition or as a result of political force.I never did see Trump's resignation coming quick and easy. Rather quick maybe but not easy.

Symbolism.

in some other meeting (Bannon? Kelly?) or heard on some RW show. Those terms have a deeper meaning in non-European based countries, as other cultures often use more "colorful" phrases in their warrior talk (vs our blunt utterances of "shock and awe" or "turkey shoot" or "carpet bomb" ).

just sits by "her man", not giving him the back of her hand, as she should. What could you say to that miserable excuse for a human being at the end of the day? What could they possibly talk about? "Blow up any interesting planets today, dear"?

They say she's well educated. They say she's well spoken. I say she's a gold digging, vapid, piece of furniture.

"You come at the king, you best not miss" - one of the most quoted lines from it - enough that it could come via someone other than Mensch.

https://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2010/12/you-come-at-the-king-you-best-not-miss/67251/

Interestingly, though I think this probably was a complete coincidence, The Wire's theme song includes:

you gotta keep the devil
way down in the hole
he's got the fire and the fury
at his command
