WASHINGTON, Aug 24 (Reuters) - House of Representatives Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi called on Thursday for Republicans to come up with a plan to raise the U.S. debt ceiling and avoid a default.
"With the White House, House and Senate under one party control, the American people expect and deserve a plan from Republicans to avert a catastrophic default and ensure the full faith and credit of the United States," said Pelosi.

Pelosi: GOP leaders must make plan to avoid debt limit disaster
BY SYLVAN LANE - 08/24/17 11:33 AM EDT
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Thursday called on Republicans to unify around a plan to raise the federal debt limit after a series of public disputes among GOP leaders.
Pelosi released the statement shortly after President Trump tweeted that Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) were to blame for the debt ceiling predicament for not attaching the borrowing limit bill to separate veterans affairs legislation.
"With the White House, House and Senate under one party control, the American people expect and deserve a plan from Republicans to avert a catastrophic default and ensure the full faith and credit of the United States, Pelosi said. With so much at risk for hard-working families, Republicans need to stop the chaos and sort themselves out in a hurry.
Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin has set a Sept. 29 deadline for raising the debt limit. Lawmakers have until September 30 to fund the federal government.
