Elizabeth Warren backs off demand that Scott Brown release more tax returns
Source: Boston Globe
Elizabeth Warren demanded Monday that Senator Scott Brown release more years of his tax returns. The only problem was that Brown, her Republican rival, had already released six years of tax returns while Warren has refused to release more than four years of her filings.
Asked to reconcile that apparent conflict, Warren backed off her demand hours later, saying Tuesday that six years was enough. She did not, however, offer to release any more of her IRS filings.
The episode began on Monday night, when Warren called on Brown to release two decades worth of filings.
I think Scott Brown should release his tax returns for all the years hes been in public service, Warren said in Worcester Monday night, according to the website GoLocalWorcester.com. Hes been in public service for 20 years, then he should have 20 years of tax returns.

(256 posts)I suspect that someone on her campaign staff suggested this w/o doing any research thinking that it's working against Romney, let's do it against Brown.
If so, then that person should be fired.
As much as I hate to disagree with you, it wasn't Ted Kennedy's seat, it's the people of Mass. seat.

We have Romneyhood and Obamalogna. LMAO. Seriously, that is the yakking between the two. That is pretty much bratty kids in the playground.

(59,504 posts)were never given credit for being the exceptional Senators they were? This led to them with Kennedy holding both seats for decades.
Had Kerry been less good, it is easy to imagine Weld would have won and likely held the seat for years. Then the idea that both were "Democratic" seats.

(2,300 posts)It was about her opponent's returns. It's a bit of a snafu to call for him to release more of his returns while he's already released more of them than she has.
Somebody dropped the ball on that one.

(130,974 posts)Day late, but I agree. HOPE she's re-doing her campaign 'aides.' Hope she can find some who are better, and know what they're doing.
Recall when ?Kerry? adopted or was gifted with aides from Ted Kennedy, and things seemed to go badly for a while? Or am I mis-recalling?
CTyankee
(63,912 posts)I think she's wise to pull back from this and get to the bottom of why the aide did not see the discrepancy in her releasing 4 years vs. Scott releasing 6. She must have been misinformed somewhere along the way. Could this have been a dirty trick?

(130,974 posts)early on, John Kerry's campaign manager was Jim Jordan. However, Jordan was replaced by Mary Beth Cahill. Kerry also hired Bob Shrum as a campaign consultant. Cahill and Shrum were known for disagreeing on how the campaign should be run.
I somehow recall Cahill as supposed to be a superstar who couldn't get it done, sent over from Ted Kennedy Senatorial campaign staff. (Googled and came up with her name.)
Yes, Warren is wise to pull back and get to the bottom of things, and STOP DIGGING, as you said.

(59,504 posts)After that the primary campaign far exceeded what the pundits expected.
karynnj
(59,504 posts)He was doing poorly before that - and he got rid of Jim Jordan, who fought with Kerry's wife and brother on how to run a campaign. The primary campaign was well run by the Kennedy aides and Kerry people - it was a very smooth path to a win in spite of little party support and almost no media support.
The general election was tougher - they needed more people and it seems some of the Edwards and Clinton people were more loyal to their person than to Kerry.
