Mnuchin on Trump Going After San Juan Mayor: 'When the President Gets Attacked, He Attacks Back'

Source: Mediaite

by Josh Feldman | 9:58 am, October 1st, 2017

On Meet the Press this morning, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin defended President Trump over questions about his combative Puerto Rico tweets. Chuck Todd opened by asking why the President seemed “so angry in his tweets” yesterday.

Mnuchin reviewed how much the administration has done so far in the response efforts, calling it a “very big focus” of President Trump and his Cabinet.

Trump in particular blasted San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz, and Todd asked Mnuchin why Trump wasn’t showing more “empathy” for her situation. Mnuchin said, “When the President gets attacked, he attacks back. And I think the mayor’s comments were unfair, given what the federal government has done.”

He did add that he understands the frustration on the ground there.

Cannot handle emergencies; cannot select competent cabinet members.

they foolishly believe government to be a business and citizens and representatives their customers and compound their errors by attacking their customers who point out problems with their product.

like a president wouldn't "attack back" like a petulant child every time he's criticized. That's one of the occupational hazards of being president, and if you can't take criticism you shouldn't have that job. I don't remember any former presidents - even some that I really didn't like at all - lashing out every time someone dared to question something he did. Even Nixon, who had some nasty words for the media, didn't go as far as Orange Foolius. Nixon was a bad dude but he managed to act like a grown-up, at least in public.

Just think of all the shit that got thrown at Obama - he never once had a tantrum over it.

electricity so they can't get the $$ out of the ATM's is a great idea. Moron. And they expect the PRians to pay for the gas, that they have to wait for 12 hours for is a sin, an outright sin.

The entire island's infrastructure is destroyed and Trump claims they are lazy because they can't get to their jobs. Fucking moron.

Munchkin hasn't been there, but he really knows what is going on down there, the TIC hasn't been down there, but he knows what is going on down there...hey Donnie 2 Scoops STFU!!!!!!!

Trump isn't remotely fit to carry President Obama's shoes, much less fill them.

He so deserves that public comparison.

But of course, because he's a thin-skinned asshole, no one may level it for fear of the petty bullshit he'll pull with so much power in his grasp.

I'm sure I'm not the only one whose head explodes every time I hear some out of touch tRump appointee or supporter defend the horrendous vermin that occupies the WH. When will those that do the interviewing call them out for their attempts at glossing over and otherwise accepting unacceptable behavior? I have heard almost nothing of substance from any republican that really takes 45 to task for inappropriateness or ineffectiveness let alone abject incompetency. Republican strategists to any republican politician always seem to do a soft shoe tap dance, tripping over themselves appearing like clumsy idiots in attempts to defend this sociopath. They are but like those protecting the Ego of the Emperor with no clothes, no one says much of anything. We need to all unite and get the media to stop giving credence to those who are inept. They have nothing to say of substance. Do not spend time asking for republicans response to 45s twitter agitation. Ignore tRump, isolate him and let's get down to addressing as a collective how we as a country will come together and problem solve.
