President Donald Trump on Thursday accepted the thank-yous from the three UCLA men's basketball players accused of shoplifting during a team trip to China whose release he helped secure during his five-nation tour of Asia.
To the three UCLA basketball players I say: You're welcome, go out and give a big Thank You to President Xi Jinping of China who made your release possible and, HAVE A GREAT LIFE! Trump wrote on Twitter, breaking his message up into two posts. Be careful, there are many pitfalls on the long and winding road of life!
All three players, freshmen LiAngelo Ball, Jalen Hill and Cody Riley, personally thanked the president during remarks at a press conference Wednesday in Los Angeles. Earlier that day, Trump had wondered on Twitter Do you think the three UCLA Basketball Players will say thank you President Trump? They were headed for 10 years in jail!"
The three players were arrested last week in China, accused of shoplifting from a Louis Vuitton store near their team hotel in Hangzhou. None of the three were allowed to play in their teams season-opening game against Georgia Tech in Shanghai, and all three remained behind in China for several days after their team returned to the U.S.
