Schumer calls for ethics investigation after Franken allegations

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Thursday called for an ethics investigation after a woman accused Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) of kissing and groping her without her consent in 2006.

"Sexual harassment is never acceptable and must not be tolerated," Schumer said in a statement.

"I hope and expect that the Ethics Committee will fully investigate this troubling incident, as they should with any credible allegation of sexual harassment."

Schumer joins calls from several others — including Franken himself — who are calling for an ethics investigation into the allegations.

I'm cycnical enough to believe if Moore is elected, the stage is now set (by Schumer, McCaskill, and Franken) to hold hearings into Moore's crimes. McConnell was shown on MSNBC the other night saying, "if he's elected, we'll have an Ethics Committee investigation."

Franken on Thursday afternoon released a statement apologizing for his actions and calling for an ethics investigation into his behavior.

“I understand why we need to listen to and believe women’s experiences,” he said in the statement. “I am asking that an ethics investigation be undertaken, and I will gladly cooperate.”
