Collins: Moore's denials aren't convincing
Source: CNN
Maine Republican Sen. Susan Collins said on Sunday that she does not believe Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore's denials of the sexual allegations against him and hopes the state's voters do not send him to Washington.
"I did not find his denials to be convincing at all," Collins said on CNN's "State of the Union."
The Washington Post published a report earlier this month based on interviews with more than 30 people that said Moore pursued relationships with teenagers while he was in his 30s. One woman alleged she was 14 years old when Moore initiated sexual contact with her. Alabama's legal age of consent, then and now, is 16.
Since the Post's report, another woman has come forward and accused Moore of sexually assaulting her when she was 16.

(146,288 posts)Moore does not appear to be taking their comments to heart, though. He's still running.
It's probably going to be up to Alabama voters to have the last word on this. I hope they do the right thing and rebuff Moore at the polling place. If Moore wins, the Republicans in the Senate will probably not expel him.

(146,288 posts)If everyone in the Senate who has a complaint against him or her for something done by that Senator resigned, that house of Congress would be filled with empty chairs.
As always, all Senators run for re-election every six years. We can vote them out of office if they have offended us by their behavior or votes in the Senate.
If the voters in Alabama have any sense at all, they will simply vote for Doug Jones and send an unmistakable message to Roy Moore. The question is whether those voters do have any sense. We'll find out, it looks like.
If Moore does win the election, I think it's highly unlikely that enough Republicans in that body will join with the Democrats to oust him. The Republicans will gather their wagons into a circle and protect one of their own. Even those who are now saying he does not belong there. Such is politics in America.
