Dem Rep. Kathleen Rice: 'John Conyers Should Resign,' Allegations Credible and 'Repulsive'

A Democratic congresswoman is calling on colleague John Conyers to resign.

Rep. Kathleen Rice (D- NY) put out a statement today following reports of harassment allegations against the long-serving Democratic congressman.

Rice says the allegations against Conyers are “as credible as they are repulsive,” saying, “We all know credible allegations when we hear them, and the same is true of hypocrisy.”

Other Democrats haven’t quite gotten to that point yet. Congressman Gregory Meeks said earlier today Conyers should step down from his post as ranking member on the House Judiciary Committee.

Think she is trying to make room at the top.

Personally, I do't care for the early and public calls for representatives to resign. Seems self-serving.

Prefer process.

I hate her grandstanding...she did it here on LI when she was the DA as well. Her anti-Pelosi machinations were amateurish at best. The candidate she supported got somewhat wobbly about corporate tax cuts, and Pelosi's leadership of the caucus during the the summer votes to repeal the ACA was so focused and masterful that she more than proved her mettle. Nancy has also been raising money for the DCCC and DNC.

Because we're lucky to have a Democrat in Rice's seat, I'll bite my tongue for now.

6. Well if people keep sucking up to the Tabloid Media it won't be done.

This is a tool for successful character assination.... noting a huge Democratic Target ... demonstrating just how much of a successful political tool this claim I was touched back in the day...tears fall...thus triggering audience's victimization experience......this will not make productive changes...

I don't care for this to be news media material. Trial by Media actually only has the power to be destructive. . nothing good coming from this...increased isolation, mistrust, paranoia and lives destroyed equal to our opiates epidemic...

Stop feeding the instigators...Find a plan that has organized thinking with goal oriented outcomes.

7. I agree. And its only a matter of time before false accusations start to get attention.

I hate saying it, but you know its coming. And if it does, then this latest empowerment of women who have REALLY been abused will be pushed down again. Look at the Duke lacrosse story; the Rolling Stone story. Other examples. We don't need to have disbelief become the initial thought as opposed to listening.

This Media Tabloid, Trial by Media will not empower women...there is just chatter, speculation claims, could/ could not be true in most instances of these daily assult claims...one thing that is occurring...lives are being destroyed successfully...thus this is a tool for character assination...

There is no plan to move forward with the new awareness, recognized harassment issues.. Definitely no Leadership.....just feel good temporary steam release...no plan with goals, actions and expected outcome...just noise.
