Retired Lt. Gen.: Trumps Boastful Thanksgiving Message to Troops Somewhat Insulting

Source: Mediate

by Aidan McLaughlin | 12:22 pm, November 23rd, 2017

Retired Lieutenant General Mark Hertling appeared on CNN Thursday to discuss President Donald Trump’s Thanksgiving call to U.S. service members — and called the president’s remarks “somewhat insulting” and “off-kilter.”

Hertling, a CNN military analyst, first noted that he was “thankful for the fact that [Trump] did address the soldiers,” but that “the message that I heard and some of the things he said would have not rung very well with me had I been a deployed soldier.”

In the call, made from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, the president dinged the previous administration for its efforts combatting ISIS, claiming that the U.S. is now “winning” against the terror group “because I’m letting you do your job.”

“We have been winning,” Hertling contented on CNN. “You’re talking to soldiers and military personnel around the world who have been in this fight for 17 years and to suddenly be told they’re winning now when they weren’t winning before is somewhat insulting, first of all.”

But he has to tear down Obama, too. He has to be better than the black guy in all things. I mean, he clearly believes he is, but he needs for everyone around him to believe it, too. So, he'll keep saying it over and over and over.

He's making himself seem pathetic and envious of Obama. There's something wrong with Trump's brain. Really.

I was in Iraq OIF3 (that's 2005 for people in the media) when we basically got our asses handed to us. Sure we ruled the skies and the major bases, but the night belonged to the insurgents and we were only making things worse, much worse with our invasion and occupation. We need generals to stand up and say this whole GD war is folly, a waste of life and treasure on our side and the side of those dying under our bombs.

When was the last time a general was fired for incompetence? Catch them with a hooker or something and they're gone, but incompetence and ignorance seem to be part of the job description?

GWB's failed, illegal war.

A war where there is no "winning."

President Obama understood that, the idiot Trump does not.

Is that why he used his Peace Prize acceptance speech to escalate the Afghan war?

A region that has had many a military coups. We do not want to go down that road. It’s bad enough having three generals in the White House inner circle.

He lies all the time to cover it up and try to convince people of his power, but all he does is show his hate and meanness and self loathing. Nothing matters to him but him and his power and money, nothing!
