Joe Biden consoles Meghan McCain on father's cancer diagnosis

Source: CNN

(CNN)Joe Biden and Meghan McCain shared an emotional moment Wednesday, with the former vice president consoling the daughter of his friend and onetime political rival Sen. John McCain.

Visiting ABC's "The View" to talk about his book, "Promise Me, Dad: A Year of Hope, Hardship, and Purpose," Biden was asked by McCain, a co-host on the morning show, about his son Beau's cancer diagnosis.

McCain's father was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor, in July. Beau Biden passed away from the same cancer in 2015.

"This is the hard part, bear with me, OK? I couldn't get through your book, I tried. Your son Beau had the same cancer that my father was diagnosed with six months ago," McCain said, apologizing as she began to choke up.

people will lose their health insurance, and with the removal of the SCHIPS program, thousands of children's lives will be put at risk.

What will happen with the funding of Medicaid or the subsidies with people under a certain income is not known, but most likely based on what the republicans have pushed in the past, a lot of people will be hurt by this

A friend was given tickets that allowed her to get her picture taken with Biden. While she was with him, the state party chair let Biden know that she had recently lost her husband to cancer. No more the perfunctory photo, Biden wrapped his arms around her and gave her a big hug and some personal words. I was not there to see it but she told me all about it and I wish Biden could know how much it meant to her.

I haven't watched The View in quite a while in large part because of Meghan McCain but, as I channel surfed this morning, I noticed Joe Biden was on. I never really saw much of Biden on the media in Canada so I stopped for a bit and saw this remarkable scene. It was such a dramatic change to see such a caring public figure in contrast to the self obsessed scum bag in the White House it was really remarkable. My opinion of Biden rose significantly and I would be quite happy if he saw fit to run for president in 2020. It would be nice to have a functioning human being occupy that office again.

And I do see the value of energizing younger voters with young candidates. But Biden was the one who pulled President Obama along on some issues, starting with benefits for same-sex partners and same-sex marriage. He has a young spirit, I think.

At about the same age, I don't think I would be interested in a provincial cabinet minister's job much less the US presidency. Biden did put a couple of qualifiers on that possibility. He said if his family was ready and if no one he felt comfortable with decided to run, then he would consider running. I think that's enough caveats especially if he had a younger vp who took a more active role.

If Pretzelnit Pigboy J. Lardpork survives another 3 years, I think the whole country is going to be in need of some serious healing and what I saw of Biden makes me think he would be well suited for that job for a term.

I've seen enough of this to know the hopelessness the diagnosis can cause. Courage won't cure it, but it helps deal with it.
