Sheriff: Boy's death in officer shooting 'tragic accident'

SCHERTZ, Texas (AP) — The death of a 6-year-old boy who was shot and killed by a stray bullet when deputies near San Antonio opened fire on a woman being sought for crimes is a "tragic accident," a Texas sheriff said Friday.

The woman, 30-year-old Amanda Jones, was also fatally shot in the incident Thursday afternoon. Bexar County deputies had pursued her for a car theft and other offenses about two hours before confronting her on the porch of a trailer that she had forced her way into, Sheriff Javier Salazar said. The boy, Kameron Prescott, was inside the trailer, although Salazar said deputies didn't know anyone was at the home in the San Antonio suburb of Schertz.

The child was struck in the torso by a bullet that pierced one of the trailer's walls. He was pronounced dead at a hospital. Salazar said Jones had no apparent connection to the boy or his family.

"In my opinion it's a tragic accident that led to the death of this young man," Salazar said at a news conference. "We are looking into all of it. Internal Affairs is still investigating it. But again preliminarily it appears that policies and procedures (on use of force) were complied with."

Wonder if it was a domestic dispute? They do not mention if Jones (who reported his car stolen) had any relationship with the dead woman.

She was ON THE PORCH exposed to all the cops. She was un-armed. The cops couldn't take cover and talk her down? They were so very anxious to kill this woman, that they NEVER considered a negotiation?

The trailer was full of people, so the only person they didn't know was in the trailer was the little boy who they killed?

Some cops in some places would clearly have waited and negotiated. If a domestic problem develops in many cities, experienced officers know they need to "wait it out" ...Especially if the individual involved is unarmed and no threat..

These idiots who shot her didn't want her to "get away".. Oh my goodness gracious...get away? to where? So shoot her.......or.................talk back to the cops....you know..."fu**en cops" or language like that....

............so shoot her.......??? for what?............again....

Oh..here is an ugly point....If this was a relative of one of the cops, and everything happened exactly the same way...nothing different,...same language and circumstances...woman with the exact same history....same anger and whatever....

14. It's not a "tragic accident".

If it were anyone else (not a cop), it would be a criminal act. Involuntary manslaughter. The cop that fired the shot without knowing where the bullet would go should be stripped of his badge, be charged with a crime, like anyone else would be, and go to prison.
But he won't be. He'll be on a paid vacation while the "investigation" takes place, and he'll go back to work like it never happened. And then he and his co-workers will still wonder why police aren't trusted.
"It's just one bad cop! The rest are good!"
"Then what's the difference between a murderous, abusive cop, and his coworkers that allow him to keep working?"
